Naran in November is the end of the season, and it is a gamble. Snow can arrive in the first week and cut the upper valley off, hotels begin to shut, and the district administration can close Naran to visitors. If the weather holds you may find a cold, empty and clear valley; if it turns, the road north of Kaghan can be impassable and you may not get to the lakes at all.

What is the weather like in Naran in November?
Climate averages for Naran, at 2,409 metres, give a daytime high of about 5°C and a night low of about minus 4°C. November is one of the driest months by rainfall, at around 18 mm, but at these temperatures precipitation means snow. The upper valley is colder still, with sharp frost and strong wind at the lakes.
Will Naran be closed in November?
It has been. In 2024 the Kaghan highway became impassable in early November because of heavy snowfall, and on 1 December the administration declared the season over, closing all destinations in Naran and the upper valley. Hotels there had shut and electricity and police posts had been withdrawn. Visitors were limited to Shogran and Kaghan.
In 2025 the picture was similar. On 5 November snow fell at Batakundi, Besar, Lulusar and Saif ul Malook, and the Kaghan Development Authority put teams at key points and warned about slippery roads. Reports then describe the road as closed from November until it reopened in April 2026, nearly six months later.
Not every November closes the valley in its first week, but the odds move against you from the start of the month. Treat any November trip to Naran as a plan with a fallback.
What happens after the season ends?
- Naran and above: the road may be closed to tourists, and if it is, hotels there may not be open.
- Batakundi, Lalazar and Saif ul Malook: closed by snow and glaciers on the tracks.
- Babusar Top: closed to traffic for the winter, usually until late May.
- Kaghan town, Balakot and Shogran: these are lower and usually stay open, and they were the places authorities directed visitors to in 2024.

How to check before you go
- Call your hotel in Naran a day or two before, and ask whether the road above Kaghan is open and whether the hotel itself is operating.
- Use the tourism information line, 1422, or check the district administration's announcements for Mansehra.
- Watch the forecast for Mansehra and Naran, not just the plains. Snow can fall two or three days after rain in Islamabad or Abbottabad.
- Be prepared to stop at Kaghan or Balakot if you are told the road ahead is shut. Do not push past a closure on your own.

If you go, pack for winter rather than for autumn:
- A heavy jacket, thermal layers, gloves, a woolly hat and warm socks
- Waterproof boots with grip
- Snow chains if you are driving yourself, and a full tank
- A charged power bank and some cash

Is November worth it?
It is worth it if you enjoy cold weather, have flexible dates and are happy to end up in Shogran or Kaghan if the road is shut. It is not worth it if you have a fixed date and are set on seeing Saif ul Malook, or if you are travelling with young children or elderly relatives, for whom a cut road and no hotel would be serious. If you want the lakes, October is a better month, and if you want Naran, September is safer.
