Day 1: arrival, the Residency and the juniper forest
Morning. Travel from Quetta, about two hours on a normal day. Arriving by late morning leaves the rest of the day free. Check in and drop your bags before heading out again, since nothing in Ziarat is more than a short drive from the centre of town.

Afternoon. Spend a couple of hours walking in the juniper forest around the town. This is one of the largest juniper forests in the world, with some trees estimated to be well over a thousand years old, and a walk among them is unhurried and doesn't need any special gear beyond decent shoes. Day 2: Prospect Point and a gorge walk

Midday. Head back into town for lunch before the afternoon's walk. Options are limited compared with Quetta, so ask your hotel for the best local choice rather than expecting a wide selection.
Afternoon. Walk to Sandeman Tangi, a narrow gorge and waterfall about 4 km from Ziarat, reached by a short trek through juniper-lined canyon. How much water you'll actually see depends on the season, strongest after winter snowmelt and rain, and much reduced by late summer. Evening. Head back to Quetta, or stay a second night if you'd rather do the drive in daylight the next morning. Two hours back is manageable in an evening, but starting the return trip with some daylight left is more comfortable than finishing the drive after dark.
Adjusting the plan
- Short on time? Combine the Residency and Prospect Point into one day and skip the gorge walk, or do it as a day trip from Quetta rather than staying overnight.
- Travelling with young children or older relatives? The Residency and Prospect Point are both easy, low-effort stops. The Sandeman Tangi walk is uneven underfoot and better suited to those who are comfortable on rough ground.
- Visiting in winter? Snow can close the road up to Prospect Point and make the gorge walk unappealing, so check locally in Ziarat before building your second day around either.
