Is October crowded, and what does it cost?
October is quieter than June, July and August, but it is far from empty. Autumn is described as a favoured season for visitors because of the comfortable weather, and one aggregator puts the high season for Mingora hotels at September to November. That means rooms are not the bargain they are in August.

Photography, walking and the light
October light is low and clear, which is why the valley looks its best in the early morning and the last hour before sunset. Forest walks around Kalam are easier in cool weather, but start early: the sun drops behind the ridges sooner than you expect, and the temperature falls with it.

But on 2 August 2026 a suicide bomber attacked the Kabal police station during a peace rally, killing 17 people, and as of September 2026 the UK government advises against all travel to Swat.
