A three-day itinerary turns the Makran Coastal Highway from an endurance drive into a proper road trip: a night at Kund Malir, a night at Ormara, and a full day in Gwadar at the end, with none of the three driving days stretched past what daylight and comfort allow. This is the plan for anyone who wants to see the coast properly rather than just get to Gwadar and back.

Why three days instead of two
The coastal highway can be driven Karachi to Gwadar in one long day, and plenty of coaches and determined drivers do exactly that. Splitting it over two days, with a night at Ormara, is the more common plan and is covered in our Karachi to Gwadar road guide. A third day adds a night at Kund Malir, close to the start of the drive, which does two things: it puts the best scenery, Hingol National Park, the Sphinx, the Princess of Hope and Buzi Pass, in the cool of early morning and late afternoon instead of the middle of a long push, and it shortens each day's drive enough that nobody is racing the sunset.
This plan suits families, groups with older parents or young children, and anyone who wants time to actually stop rather than just pass through.
Day 1: Karachi to Kund Malir
- Leave Karachi by 6 or 7 am. Head out through Hub on N-25, allowing for slow traffic and roadworks on this stretch.
- Fuel and breakfast at Zero Point, about 105–110 km in, where the coastal highway (N-10) begins. Fill the tank here.
- Hingol National Park, from around mid-morning. Stop at the Chandragup mud volcano turn if the track suits your vehicle, and pull over safely at the Hingol River bridge at Aghor for the view. Our Hingol National Park guide and Chandragup mud volcano guide cover both in more detail.
- Kund Malir by early afternoon, about 240 km from Karachi. Check into a beach hut or simple room, then spend the rest of the day on the beach.

Day 2: Kund Malir to Ormara
- Leave Kund Malir mid-morning, once the light is good for photographs.
- The Sphinx, the Princess of Hope and Buzi Pass, all within a few kilometres of each other about 25 km past Kund Malir. These clay formations and the pass above them are best seen in soft morning or late afternoon light, which a mid-morning departure gives you here.
- Lunch on the road or on arrival at Ormara.
- Ormara by mid-afternoon, about 360 km from Karachi in total, roughly 120 km from Kund Malir. Check into one of the town's simple hotels, then spend the rest of the afternoon at Ormara's own turtle beaches or around the harbour.

Day 3: Ormara to Gwadar
- Leave Ormara by 8 am, after filling the tank; this is the last reliable fuel before Gwadar aside from Pasni.
- Pasni, about two hours further on, a short detour off the highway. Stop for tea, or press on if you'd rather reach Gwadar with the whole afternoon free.
- Gwadar by early afternoon, about 290 km from Ormara. Check into your hotel.

That leaves a free morning the next day for the old town, the fish harbour and Marine Drive before you either fly back or start the return drive, ideally with another overnight at Ormara or Kund Malir on the way.
Adjusting the plan
- Short on time? Drop to two nights by combining days 1 and 2, staying only at Ormara, as in our two-day Karachi to Gwadar plan.

Pakistani travellers do visit, but as of September 2026 the UK government advises against all travel to Balochistan. If you hold a foreign passport, check your own government's advice before you go, because travelling against it can void your insurance.
