Luxury Hotels in Hunza: Top-End Stays Compared

The luxury hotels in Hunza are few, and each sells something different. The Hunza Serena Hotel in Karimabad is the most complete, with a pool, a spa and the bazaar within walking distance. The Serena Altit Fort Residence puts you in the royal garden beneath Altit Fort. PC Legacy Hunza at Nasirabad faces Rakaposhi, and on Attabad Lake, Luxus Hunza and the new Pearl-Continental Attabad Lake sell the water. Expect to pay PKR 25,000 a night and up in 2025–26, and choose by what you want to see from the window and how much you want to walk.

This guide compares them on view, service and location, adds the two alternatives worth knowing about, and ends with when a top-end room is worth the money and when it isn't.

What does a luxury hotel in Hunza cost?

Top-end rooms in Hunza have cost roughly PKR 25,000 a night and up in 2025 and 2026, and the average five-star rate listed on Booking.com for Hunza was about PKR 31,000 in September 2026. Suites, lake-facing rooms and peak dates cost considerably more. Most of these hotels don't publish a simple rate card, and prices move with the season, so ask for a quote for your dates and check whether breakfast and taxes are included.

Rates are highest in the blossom weeks, over Eid, in July and August and on the late-October colour weekends, and the best rooms go first. For those dates, book well ahead.

Hunza Serena Hotel, Karimabad

Serena describes it as the first five-star hotel in Gilgit-Baltistan, and it is the most fully equipped hotel in the valley: a swimming pool, the Maisha spa and health club with a gym, sauna and jacuzzi, and four places to eat and drink, from the all-day Maraka restaurant to a bakery café. The top rooms include a Heritage Suite finished in local woodwork and textiles.

The view: a sweep of peaks around central Hunza, including Ultar, Lady Finger, Diran, Golden Peak and Rakaposhi.

The location: about 15 minutes' walk from Karimabad bazaar, and roughly two hours by road from Gilgit airport. You can walk to Baltit Fort, the old town and dinner, which none of the other top hotels can offer.

Choose it if you want a full-service hotel and the centre of Hunza on foot. It is the easy choice for a first visit, and for anyone who wants a pool and a spa at the end of the day.

Serena Altit Fort Residence

A small hotel in the Royal Garden beneath Altit Fort, about 3 km along the hillside from Karimabad. It has 16 rooms: 11 valley-view huts, four standard rooms and one executive room, all with heating and cooling. Meals are at the Kha Basi Café in the garden, open from 7 am to 11 pm, which serves Hunza dishes alongside Pakistani, Chinese and Continental food.

The location: quiet once the day visitors have gone, with Karimabad a short drive away. Our Altit Fort guide covers the fort and the garden.

Choose it if you want character more than facilities. It suits couples and anyone who would rather wake up in an orchard than in a large hotel. With so few rooms, book early.

PC Legacy Hunza, Nasirabad

Pearl-Continental's hotel in lower Hunza, on the Karakoram Highway at Nasirabad, faces Rakaposhi directly, and PC says every room looks at the mountain or the valley, most with a balcony. It lists 57 rooms, including family rooms and suites, two restaurants, a heated pool, a spa and gym, a games room and a children's play area.

The view: Rakaposhi, face on, which is the reason to stay.

The location: the weak point. PC puts it about 45 minutes from Karimabad, so every visit to the forts, the bazaar or Attabad starts with a drive.

Choose it if you are travelling with children and want a resort with things for them to do, or you are happy to trade walkability for the mountain from your bed.

On Attabad Lake: Luxus Hunza and Pearl-Continental

Two big resorts sell the lake, about 30 to 40 minutes' drive north of Karimabad.

Luxus Hunza is the established one, built on the shore with suites, family rooms, lake-view rooms and tent rooms with shared washrooms. It has a restaurant over the water, a health club with a gym, spa, sauna and pool, a games room, and its own speedboats, jet skis and boat trips. In June 2025 the authorities sealed part of the hotel and fined it PKR 1.5 million over sewage discharge into the lake, so read recent reviews before booking.

Pearl-Continental Attabad Lake, at Ayeenabad near Gulmit, began a soft opening in May 2026 and is planned to grow to 117 rooms. Its rooms have lake-view terraces, the restaurant looks over the water, and PC says it has installed modern wastewater treatment. Its own listing mentions no pool or spa yet, so check what is running on your dates.

Choose the lake if you want a quiet evening and early morning on the water, or you are heading on to Passu and Khunjerab. One night is usually enough, because you will eat every meal in the hotel. Our guide to hotels at Attabad Lake compares the lakeside stays in more detail.

Further up the valley: Sost Serena

Sost is the last town before the Chinese border. The Sost Serena Hotel has 50 rooms at about 2,800 metres, with two places to eat and a spa. It is not somewhere to stay for its own sake, but it suits anyone crossing into China or wanting an early, comfortable start to the Khunjerab Pass.

For the view rather than the facilities: Eagle's Nest

The Eagle's Nest Hotel at Duikar is mid-range rather than luxury, but it has the best view in central Hunza, over the whole valley to Rakaposhi and Diran, and a Duikar family has run it since 1994. If what you want from a splurge night is sunrise from your window rather than a spa, one night here may do more for your trip than a night at a five-star. The road up is steep and narrow.

How to choose between them

• For service and walking out to dinner: the Hunza Serena Hotel.
• For Rakaposhi from your room, or young children: PC Legacy Hunza.
• For a honeymoon: a night at Altit or on the lake, the rest in Karimabad.

Whichever you choose, ask how the rooms are heated and what backs up the power, which matters from October onwards, and whether the room you are paying for actually faces the view. It is also fair to ask how the hotel handles its wastewater. In July 2025 Gilgit-Baltistan's Environmental Protection Agency flagged hotels discharging sewage into streams and lakes and heavy use of diesel generators, and recommended a five-year freeze on new hotel building in central Hunza, Duikar, Attabad and Borith. Foreign nationals should also check that the hotel can currently register foreign guests, as the rules in Hunza have changed more than once since 2025.

When is a luxury hotel in Hunza worth it?

For one or two nights, often yes. A room at Altit Fort, the lake at dawn, or the Hunza Serena's pool after the long drive north can be part of the trip rather than just a bed.

For a whole week, usually not. You are out from breakfast to dusk, and a good mid-range hotel in Karimabad with a heated room and a view gives you most of the same valley for a fraction of the price. The exceptions are travelling with older parents or small children, when facilities, space and reliable heating earn their cost every day, and winter, when a well-heated room with backup power matters more than anything else.
