Islamabad City Tour: One-Day Guide and Cost

An Islamabad city tour fits comfortably into one day: Faisal Mosque, the Pakistan Monument and its museum, Lok Virsa, a viewpoint on the Margalla Hills at sunset, and dinner at the foot of the hills. In 2026, a sedan with a driver for the day was listed at about PKR 5,000 to 9,000 by local rental firms, with fuel and driver meals extra. A guided private tour with entry fees included costs more and is usually priced in dollars.

This guide gives a route that works, the times to aim for, what each option costs, and what to ask before you book. We do not run a dedicated Islamabad day tour, so the costs here come from public listings, and prices change.

What does an Islamabad city tour include?

Most one-day tours use the same five or six stops, because they are close together and free or cheap to enter. One published private tour lists four: the Pakistan Monument Museum, Lok Virsa Museum, Faisal Mosque and the Lake View Park bird aviary, at about an hour each, over four to five hours, with admission included. A fuller day adds a viewpoint and a meal.

We could not confirm a regular public sightseeing bus. A double-decker service was announced for early 2025, and in September 2026 the Capital Development Authority said it was still planning electric double-deckers on a 25 km loop starting at F-9 Park, with fares and a launch date not announced. Check before relying on either.

A sample one-day route

1. 9:30 am, Faisal Mosque. Go first, when it is quieter and cooler. Allow about an hour. Check the current visiting times and dress modestly. See our Faisal Mosque guide.
2. 11 am, Pakistan Monument and museum. The monument is at Shakarparian. Lok Virsa's website lists the museum as open Tuesday to Sunday from 10 am to 8 pm, with local adults at Rs200 and students at Rs100. See Pakistan Monument.
3. 12:30 pm, Lok Virsa Museum. A walk-through museum of Pakistani crafts, costumes and culture. Allow an hour or so. See our Lok Virsa guide.
4. 2 pm, lunch. Eat in Blue Area or F-6 and F-7. See best food in Islamabad.
5. 4 pm, Lake View Park or Rose and Jasmine Garden. Choose the lakeside park for the aviary and boating (entry Rs20 per person on its site in 2026) or the garden in spring.
6. Late afternoon, Daman-e-Koh for sunset. Check the sunset time for the month in our sunset points guide and leave the hills before dark.
7. Evening, dinner in Saidpur Village at the foot of the hills, if you still have energy.

That is a full day. If you have less time, drop Lok Virsa and the lake, and keep the mosque, monument and Daman-e-Koh.

How much does an Islamabad city tour cost?

Costs depend on how you do it.

• Ride-hailing between stops. The cheapest for one or two people. Cars are easy to get at each site, but waiting time at the stops can add up.
• A sedan with a driver for the day. Local rental firms listed about PKR 5,000 to 9,000 in 2026 for a city tour. The lower end is a basic day rate and the higher end is typical for a tour package. Fuel, tolls and the driver's meals are usually extra, so ask what the price covers.
• A private guided tour. Booking platforms list Islamabad city tours from about US$80 per person for a half-day up to US$120 to 150 for a full day, priced in dollars, with entry fees and a guide included. That is well above a driver hired locally, and it buys a guide who explains what you see. Prices vary by group size.

Entry costs add up more slowly. The Pakistan Monument Museum charges as above, and Lake View Park is Rs20 per person on its own site. Keep some cash for small entry fees and parking.

Should you book a tour or go on your own?

For most Pakistani visitors with a car or a hired driver, going on your own is easy: the sites are within a few kilometres of each other and clearly signed. A guide adds most for first-time visitors, for foreign visitors, and for groups with older parents who prefer someone else to plan.

If you book a guided tour, ask:

• Which stops are included, and how long is spent at each?
• Are entry fees included?
• Is the car air-conditioned, and does the price include fuel?
• Is the guide licensed, and does he speak your language?
• What is the cancellation policy? Some operators charge a full penalty.

Be wary of anyone who wants full payment in cash upfront without any written confirmation.

Tips for the day

• Start early. By noon the heat and the crowds build, especially from May to September.
• Avoid Monday. The Lok Virsa museums are closed.
• Check Friday timings. Prayer breaks change the times.
• Plan for traffic on Murree Road. It slows in the evening.
• Keep the hills for daylight. The Margalla Hills are a national park with leopards, so leave by dusk.
