A Hunza tour package from Lahore in 2026 comes in three shapes: a shared or small-group road trip at roughly PKR 25,000 to 35,500 per person for five days, a private road trip in your own hired car at about PKR 110,000 per person for seven days, and a fly-and-drive package that costs more but removes about two days of driving. Which one is right depends mostly on how many people are going and how much road you can stand.
Lahore is a long way from Hunza, so the departure matters more than it does from Islamabad. This guide covers the options from Lahore, what advertised prices usually include, and what to check before you pay. For the general checklist of inclusions and exclusions, see our guide to comparing Hunza tour packages; this page is about the Lahore end of it.

The three kinds of Lahore package
Shared or group road packages
These are the cheapest. You join a group, usually in a coaster or a Hiace, and the operator runs a fixed itinerary of five or six days. Advertised prices in 2026 sit around PKR 25,000 to 35,500 per person, with the lower figure applying when four to six people share one vehicle and the higher when it is a couple.
The price is low because the days are very full. A five-day road trip from Lahore spends two of its days driving each way, which leaves little more than a day and a half in Hunza itself. It suits students, solo travellers and anyone who mainly wants to say they have been.
Private road packages
A private package gives you your own car and driver for the whole trip, with pickup at your door in Lahore. One 2026 listing for a seven-day trip quotes PKR 110,000 per person, with a private Toyota GLI, six hotel nights in one room, breakfast, fuel and tolls, and pickup from areas such as DHA, Gulberg, Model Town and Johar Town at about 7 am. Lunches, dinners, fort tickets and boat rides were extra.
Private trips are priced per person for a stated group size, so ask what the figure assumes. A price built on four people in a car looks very different for a couple. If you have a family with children or older parents, this is the format that lets you set the pace.
Fly-and-drive packages
Here you fly from Lahore, usually connecting through Islamabad to Gilgit, and a driver meets you at Gilgit airport for the 100 km run to Karimabad. Listings in 2026 advertise air packages per couple, from about PKR 295,000 for four days to PKR 375,000 for six. These are the dearest option, but they give you the most time in Hunza for the days you have.
The catch is the Gilgit flight itself, which flies only in good visibility and is cancelled often enough that you should plan for it. Our guide to Gilgit and Skardu flight cancellations explains what that means for your dates.
The road from Lahore to Hunza
Almost every road package follows the same outline. The M-2 motorway takes you to Islamabad in about four hours, and the Hazara Motorway carries you north towards Abbottabad and Mansehra. After that there are two routes:
- The Babusar route, in summer. Via Naran and the Babusar Pass to Chilas, then the Karakoram Highway to Gilgit and Hunza. The pass is seasonal: in 2026 it reopened to traffic in late May, and it normally stays open from about June to October. It avoids the Besham and Dasu stretch of the highway.
- The Karakoram Highway all the way. Through Besham, Dasu and Chilas. It is open all year and usually faster, but it has the longest and most exposed sections.
Ask the operator which route they use, and whether it changes with the date. Advertised distances differ with the route and the starting point in Lahore: one 2026 listing gives about 730 km for the Babusar route, and other sources give higher figures, so treat the km as approximate.

What the price usually covers
Most Lahore packages include:
- Transport from Lahore to Hunza and back, with fuel and tolls
- Hotel nights, normally on double occupancy
- Breakfast, and sometimes dinner
- A driver who stays with the vehicle throughout
What is usually left out:
- Lunches and, often, dinners
- Entry tickets to Baltit and Altit forts, and Attabad Lake boating
- The Khunjerab National Park fee
- Travel insurance and medical costs
- Anything extra you ask the driver to detour for
Check the hotels by name. In Karimabad the difference between a standard room and a room with a valley view is large, and some packages put you in Aliabad or by the lake instead. If the operator will not name the hotels, treat that as information.
A sensible number of days
Seven days is the realistic minimum for a road trip from Lahore if you want to see Hunza rather than just reach it: two days up, three in Hunza, two back. Five days works only if you accept it as a drive with a viewpoint at the end.
A rough plan for seven days:
- Day 1: Lahore to Mansehra or Naran, overnight.
- Day 2: Over Babusar or along the KKH to Chilas or Gilgit, overnight.
- Day 3: Gilgit to Karimabad, with the Baltit Fort afternoon.
- Day 4: Altit, Eagle's Nest and the old town.
- Day 5: Attabad Lake, Passu and the Khunjerab day, or an easier Gojal day.
- Day 6: Back down to Chilas or Besham.
- Day 7: Home to Lahore.
Our Hunza itinerary for 5 days lays out what to do once you are in the valley, and Hunza trip costs shows what to budget beyond the package.
Which departure suits you
Choose a shared road package if you are travelling alone or in a pair on a tight budget and are comfortable spending a lot of time in a vehicle.
Choose a private road package if you are a family or a group of friends and want a driver you can rely on, stops when you want them, and the option to change the plan if the weather does.
Choose fly-and-drive if you have only four or five days of leave, or someone in the group will not manage two long days on mountain roads. Build in a buffer day at the end for cancelled flights.
Look elsewhere if you are expecting a gentle holiday. Even the best package from Lahore involves long days of driving at the start and the end.
Our own nine-day Gilgit, Hunza and Khunjerab tour starts from PKR 90,000 per person and spreads the distance over more days, so you spend more time in the valley and less on the road.
Questions to ask before you pay
- Is the price per person, and for how many people?
- Which route do you take, and what happens if Babusar is closed?
- Which hotels, by name, in Karimabad and Gulmit or Passu?
- Which meals are included?
- Who pays if the vehicle breaks down or the road closes?
- What is the refund policy if the weather cancels the trip?
