Mid-range hotels in Skardu are the ones between a basic guesthouse and a lakeside or heritage resort: private bathroom, heating, a restaurant on site, and usually a garden or a mountain view. In the 2025 and 2026 listings we checked, a double room in this band comes to roughly PKR 9,000 to 20,000 a night in the busy months, and less outside them. Sources disagree widely on exact rates, so use the figures here to budget, not to quote.

This guide explains what the band offers, names a few established hotels in it, and lists what is worth checking before you pay a deposit. It does not rank hotels; hotel quality in Skardu changes from season to season.

What counts as a mid-range hotel in Skardu?

There is no official grading you can rely on. Star ratings on booking sites are self-reported or assigned loosely, and a hotel listed as "3-star" in one place is "2-star" in another. A more useful test is what you actually get:

  • A private bathroom with reliable hot water
  • A room heater or central heating, which matters outside July and August
  • A restaurant or breakfast service in the hotel
  • Parking, and ideally a generator or backup for power cuts
  • A location where you can reach the bazaar or the main roads without a long drive

Anything cheaper than that tends to be a basic guesthouse; our budget hotels in Skardu guide covers that end. Anything with a lake, a fort or a palace behind it is in our luxury hotels guide.

How much do mid-range hotels cost?

Prices in Skardu move with the season more than with the star rating. Booking sites show very low rates in quiet months and several times that in spring and summer. Listings we checked in 2025 and 2026 put mid-range doubles in the region of PKR 9,000 to 20,000 a night in season, with newer, more modern hotels at the top of that range or above it.

Some figures you may see online are in dollars or pounds. At 2026 exchange rates, USD 33 to 52 a night, a range quoted for one long-running hotel, is roughly PKR 9,000 to 14,500. A 4-star hotel quoted from USD 83 is above PKR 20,000.

Prices change, and the rate shown on a booking site is often not the rate you are quoted by phone. Ask for the total in PKR, including tax and breakfast, and confirm it in writing, for example by message. Our Skardu trip cost guide shows how lodging fits into a whole-trip budget.

Mid-range hotels in Skardu worth knowing

These hotels exist and have been operating for some time. We have not stayed in them and do not recommend one above another; check recent reviews and confirm the rate before booking.

Hotel One Skardu. Part of the Hotel One chain, on Airport Road, a short drive from the airport and about 2 km from the town centre. Air-conditioned rooms and a modern, plain style. Listings show widely different rates, from about PKR 12,000 to 18,000 on one guide and higher on booking sites. It suits people who want chain-style predictability.

Hotel Mashabrum. An older, established hotel on College Road, in the Sukkadamedan area. It has been popular with trekking groups and families for years, and rooms have electric heaters. Rates quoted for a standard room are roughly USD 33 to 52 a night, which is about PKR 9,000 to 14,500.

Avari Xpress Skardu. A 4-star hotel on College Road in Tufail Colony, run by the Avari group, with air conditioning and heating. It sits at the upper end of mid-range; standard rooms are quoted from about USD 83.

Hotel Areena. A smaller 3-star property with a garden and mountain views, which scores well on Booking.com guest reviews. Rates are reported from about GBP 33 a night, roughly PKR 12,000. Its small size means fewer rooms and quicker sell-outs in season.

If you want somewhere beside the water, the lakeside resorts around Kachura are a different category; see the Shangrila Resort guide and our hotels in Kachura page.

Where to stay: airport road, college road or the bazaar

Airport Road is convenient for early flights and a late arrival. It is flat, quiet and close to the main road to Shigar and Khaplu, but a taxi ride from the bazaar.

College Road and the neighbourhoods around it are quieter and green in summer, with views of the surrounding hills.

Near the bazaar is best if you want to walk to restaurants and shops. It is also noisier and more crowded in summer.

Our where to stay in Skardu guide compares the areas in more detail. If you will be on the road most days, a quiet edge-of-town hotel with parking is usually a better choice than a central one.

What families should check before booking

  • Heating and hot water. Ask whether rooms have a heater, a gas heater or central heating, and whether hot water is on all day. In April, May, September and October nights are cold. Read our note on gas heater safety in hotels if the room uses one.
  • Power cuts. Skardu has scheduled and unscheduled outages. A hotel with a generator or solar backup is much more comfortable. See power cuts in Gilgit-Baltistan.
  • Room size and bed arrangements. Family rooms are often two doubles or an extra mattress. Ask exactly what is provided and the extra charge for each child.
  • Meals. Check whether breakfast is included, and whether the hotel serves dinner. Many people eat in town, but a hotel kitchen is useful with small children.
  • Documents. Hotels ask for CNIC and often a marriage certificate for couples. See what documents hotels ask for in Gilgit-Baltistan.
  • Cancellation terms. Flights to Skardu are cancelled often because of weather. Ask whether you can move your booking by a day without losing the deposit. Our guide to flight cancellations explains how to plan for them.

How to book safely

Contact the hotel directly as well as checking a booking site, compare the two rates, and pay a small deposit by a traceable method. Be wary of anyone who asks for the whole amount in advance by a personal wallet number. Our guides to booking hotels in the northern areas and hotel booking scams in Gilgit-Baltistan cover the details.

Is a mid-range hotel the right choice?

For most families and couples, yes. It gets you a warm, clean room, a working restaurant and a quiet night without paying for a resort setting, and it leaves more of the budget for transport and day trips, which are the larger costs on a Skardu trip.

It is less suitable if the lake or fort setting is the point of your trip, in which case a lakeside or heritage property is worth the premium. And if you will be out from dawn to dark every day, a cheaper, plainer room may be all you need. If you plan to visit in winter, check which hotels stay open first, as many do not.

If you would rather not book each night yourself, our Skardu and Deosai tour includes accommodation. For the town and area in general, see our Skardu guide.
