A honeymoon in Naran works well from June to early October, and best of all on weekdays in June or in September. The secret is to stay away from the bazaar, which is crowded and noisy on summer evenings, and to see the lakes early in the day. Riverside hotels above and below the town, Batakundi further up the valley and Shogran in the pines give couples a quieter base. Between December and April Naran is closed, so a winter wedding means a different destination or a later trip.

Is Naran a good place for a honeymoon?
It can be, if you plan around its crowds. Naran has a green river valley, high lakes under snow peaks, cool summer nights, and a drive from Islamabad that needs no flight. It is also one of the busiest summer destinations in the north: the bazaar is packed on summer evenings, the jeep stand at Saif-ul-Malook is crowded by late morning, and at Eid the whole valley is a traffic jam.
So go midweek, stay away from the bazaar, and get up early. A weekend, a room on the main street and a midday visit to the lake is the version of Naran couples tend to regret.

The best months for couples
- May: quiet and snowy, with the lake often still partly frozen, cold nights, fewer hotels open, and Babusar shut until the last week of the month.
- June: green, mild and the most complete month. Go on weekdays; weekends fill up once schools close.
- July and August: the busiest months and the monsoon, when rain can close the road and the lake track at short notice. A poor choice for fixed honeymoon dates.
- September: our pick for couples. The monsoon has passed, the skies are clear, schools are back and the valley is calmer, with cold evenings that suit a fire and a blanket.
- Early October: very quiet and crisp, with frosty nights and autumn colour. Some hotels and restaurants start closing towards the end of the month.
- November to April: plan something else. Visitors can't go beyond Kaghan town once the snow closes the road, usually in early December, and it reopens only in the second half of April.

Where to stay away from the bazaar
The bazaar has the most rooms, but street-facing ones hear the traffic and the crowds until late, and many look straight at the building opposite. Better choices for couples:
On the river in Naran
The riverside hotels along the Kunhar are a short walk from the bazaar but much calmer after dark. The best known is the former PTDC motel, closed from 2019 and reopened in September 2025 as the GreenPak Riverfront resort, run by Green Tourism. It sits on a large riverside plot with lawns, riverside huts and cabanas, a room block and a restaurant.
Khanian, below Naran
About 20 km down the valley at Khanian, Arcadian Riverside is a resort on the bank of the Kunhar, well away from the crowds of Naran. It suits couples who have their own car and don't mind a short drive up to Naran for the lake. The quiet evenings are the point.
Batakundi, above Naran
Batakundi, higher up the valley, has its own hotels and calmer evenings, and is closer to Lalazar, Lulusar and Babusar, though the lake means driving back through Naran.
Shogran, in the pines
For a first night, Pine Park, which has operated in Shogran since 1992, has cottages among the trees, and Shogran's meadow is at its best in the early morning and evening, once the day visitors have gone back down to Kiwai.

Quiet spots and the right times
The same places are either crowded or almost empty depending on when you arrive.
- Saif-ul-Malook at opening time. In August 2026 the lake was open to visitors from 9.30 am to 4 pm; take one of the first jeeps up and walk ten minutes along the shore, away from the jeep stand and the stalls. - Lulusar Lake, at 3,410 metres, is a long lake right beside the paved road above Batakundi. You drive there in your own car, with no jeep to wait for, and can stop at whichever stretch of shore is emptiest.
- Lalazar, a high meadow at 3,123 metres, reached by jeep from Naran or Batakundi.
- The Kunhar in the evening. A walk along the river from a riverside hotel, once the day's traffic has died down.
- Babusar Top on a clear morning, from late May until the first snow. Cold, windy and very high at 4,173 metres, so keep the stop short.
A four-day honeymoon plan from Islamabad
Day 1: Islamabad to the river at Khanian
Leave Islamabad by 7 am, take the Hazara Motorway to Mansehra and the valley road through Balakot, and stop for tea at Kiwai waterfall. Arrive at a riverside hotel at Khanian by early afternoon and do nothing more strenuous than a walk along the river.
Day 2: Saif-ul-Malook, then Naran
Drive up to Naran early and take a jeep to the lake as close to opening time as you can. In 2026 the official return fare from Naran was PKR 5,500 for the whole jeep. Spend an hour or two by the water, then come down, check in to a riverside hotel in Naran, and rest. In the evening, walk by the Kunhar.
Day 3: Lulusar, Babusar Top and Lalazar
Leave after breakfast for Lulusar Lake, about an hour to an hour and a half above Naran, and, if it is open, continue to Babusar Top. The road between Naran and Babusar is daylight only: in 2025 police closed it from 6 pm to 6 am. Come back down for lunch, then, if you still have the energy, take a jeep to Lalazar in the afternoon.
Day 4: Home
Leave Naran by 7 am to stay ahead of the traffic, stop for breakfast at Kiwai or Balakot, and reach Islamabad by early afternoon.
With a fifth day, spend the first night in Shogran, ride up to Siri Paye early the next morning, then continue to Naran.
Practical things for couples
- Carry your nikah nama and both CNICs. Hotels may ask couples for them at check-in. Keep paper copies and photos on both phones.
- Book refundable rooms in May, July and August, when snow or rain can close a road at short notice.
- Go gently on the altitude. Naran is at 2,409 metres and the lakes are higher. Walk slowly on the first day.
- Take cash for jeeps and for the many hotels and restaurants that deal only in cash.
- Drive the valley road in daylight only. It is narrow and unlit.
Is Naran right for your honeymoon?
Choose Naran if you want mountains and lakes within a day's drive of Islamabad, are free to travel midweek in June or September, and are happy to plan early starts.
