A second candidate is Clock Tower at the Food Bazaar Bakery in Sea View, which its listing describes as having a rooftop with sea views. Only one listing describes it, so check current reviews and opening times before you go.

Ocean Mall is on Khayaban-e-Iqbal in Clifton, a short drive from Clifton Beach and Do Talwar, so it combines easily with an evening walk or an earlier stop at a nearby market. A rooftop with a sea view does not mean a beachside table: from the fifth floor you look out over the coast rather than sit beside it, and haze in the warmer months can soften the view.

• Flamme, DHA Phase 8. Presented as a dinner-out setting with a city skyline and an international menu.
• Other listed rooftops include Etcetera in PECHS, Resto in DHA Phase 1 and Roof Yard in North Nazimabad, all city-view options.

When to go

Winter evenings, from November to February, are the best time, when it is cool and open-air seating is comfortable.
