Fuel
Petrol in Pakistan was around PKR 390 a litre in September 2026, though it changes with each fortnightly government revision, so treat this as a snapshot rather than a fixed figure. The round trip from Karachi to Gwadar and back is roughly 1,300 km.
A small sedan doing around 12–14 km per litre would use roughly 95–110 litres for the round trip, which works out to about PKR 37,000–43,000 in fuel at that price. A larger SUV or an older vehicle with worse fuel economy will use more; a more efficient hatchback will use less. If you're sharing a car between four or five people, this cost splits down quickly per head; travelling alone, it's the single biggest line in the budget.
Diesel prices move separately from petrol and are usually somewhat lower per litre, which matters if you're hiring a diesel SUV or a coach rather than driving a petrol car yourself.

Food
Food on this route is inexpensive by the standards of a city trip: dhabas at Winder and Zero Point for breakfast, simple restaurants at Kund Malir, Ormara and Pasni for lunch, and a proper meal available in Gwadar in the evening. A family of four can expect to spend considerably less per day on food here than in Karachi or Lahore, since there's little beyond basic roadside and small-town fare on offer, which keeps prices down but also limits variety. Carry your own water and snacks between towns rather than relying on finding shops along the emptier stretches.
Coach fares, if you're not driving
Coach fares from Karachi to Gwadar and back are set by individual operators and change with fuel prices, so there's no single number that stays accurate for long; ask directly at the terminals in Yousuf Goth, Karachi, or through the operator's booking channel, rather than relying on a figure printed somewhere online. Business or executive-class coaches cost more than ordinary air-conditioned buses. This route removes fuel and driver costs from your budget but adds the fare itself, and it's usually the cheapest way to make the trip for someone travelling alone.
Hiring a car and driver
For groups who'd rather not drive themselves, hiring a car with a driver for the trip is a common option, arranged through a local operator or agency in Karachi. This typically covers the vehicle, driver and fuel for an agreed number of days, and costs more than driving your own car but removes the fatigue of the long return drive, and the driver's local knowledge is genuinely useful on a route with checkposts and changing conditions. Rates depend heavily on the vehicle, the number of days and the season, so get a specific quote rather than assuming a fixed figure; ask what's included, particularly fuel and the driver's own food and lodging.
Putting together a rough budget
For a family of four driving their own sedan on a three-day, two-night trip each way (roughly the itinerary in our 3-day guide), the main costs are fuel for the round trip, two or three nights of simple accommodation, and food along the way and in Gwadar. The single biggest lever on the total is where you stay in Gwadar: a night at a budget guesthouse versus a night at the Zaver Pearl Continental can be a difference of several thousand rupees, more than the difference between any other choices on the trip.
