Islamabad

Lahore
Lahore has the widest choice of top-end hotels of any Pakistani city.

- Avari Lahore has a spa, a fitness centre, tennis courts, a pool and several restaurants, and it is rated highly for value on review sites.

Karachi

All are used mainly by business and event visitors, and location relative to the meeting or airport you need is the best guide to which one to book.
Bhurban: the mountain resort
Pearl-Continental Bhurban sits on Hotel Road, about 15 minutes from Murree, and is the only large luxury resort in the Murree hills. It has 194 rooms, six restaurants, two swimming pools, a spa and a cinema, according to the hotel's own information. It is a good fit for a weekend from Islamabad or Lahore when you want the hotel to be the destination, but book well ahead for weekends and holidays, and check the road and weather in winter.
Gilgit-Baltistan: restored forts and palaces
The most distinctive luxury stays in Pakistan are the restored heritage properties run by Serena in the north.
- Serena Shigar Fort is a restored 17th-century palace in Shigar, near Skardu, with rooms in the old palace or in a newer garden wing.
- Serena Khaplu Palace is in Khaplu, described as the finest surviving royal residence in Baltistan.
- Serena Altit Fort Residence is at the foot of the 900-year-old Altit Fort in Hunza, with 16 rooms.

Are they worth the price?
Sometimes. A city luxury hotel is worth it when you need reliability, security or a base for meetings, or when the hotel itself is part of the occasion, such as a wedding. It is less good value when you only need a bed near the sights, since a mid-range hotel in the right area does that for less.
The heritage properties in the north are the ones most likely to justify the price, because the setting is part of the trip. At Bhurban, you are paying for the resort more than for Murree.
