What is in Chitral Museum
The museum is organised into two galleries. The Ethnological Gallery covers the everyday life and material culture of Chitral valley: embroidery, jewellery, weapons, ceramics, musical instruments, hunting tools, furniture and household objects, the kind of things that show how Chitrali families lived and worked rather than a single dynasty's history.
The Archaeological and Kalash Gallery brings together older archaeological finds from the district alongside objects connected to Kalash culture, giving a first look at Kalasha material for visitors who haven't yet been out to the valleys. Opening hours and getting in
Chitral Museum is generally open Saturday to Thursday and closed on Friday, but its hours through the rest of the week are not consistently kept, and visitors have found it locked with no fixed opening time posted. Don't plan a trip around a specific hour. Instead, ask at your hotel or through a local guide about the best time to try, go earlier in the day rather than later, and be prepared to ask around locally for someone to open it if it is shut when you arrive.

Is it worth the visit?
If you are already in Chitral town and the museum happens to be open, yes: it is a useful, low-cost way to see Chitrali material culture and a first taste of Kalash artefacts before heading out to the valleys. It is not worth going out of your way for, or building a schedule around, given how unreliable its hours are.
