Azam Cloth Market Lahore: Wholesale Fabric Guide

Azam Cloth Market is Lahore's main wholesale cloth market, a cluster of interlinked bazaars in the Walled City near Rang Mahal and Shah Alam Market. It sells fabric of every kind, from khaddar to silk, plus ready-to-wear and bridal cloth, mostly to shopkeepers and tailors, though individual buyers shop here too. Go on a weekday morning, take cash, and expect to bargain.

This guide is for visitors and families who want to buy suit lengths or fabric at closer to wholesale rates. It covers what to expect, when to go and how to shop without getting lost.

What is Azam Cloth Market?

Candela RMS describes it as a wholesale hub of some 15 to 20 interlinked bazaars run under an elected board, that supplies retailers across Pakistan and abroad. Its account says the market dates to 1953, when it was moved from near Wazir Khan Mosque during a road-widening and named after General Azam. We could only find that history in one account, so treat the date as approximate.

What matters for a visitor is the scale. There are hundreds of shops, many selling the same lines, so you can compare price and quality within a few steps.

What can you buy?

• Unstitched fabric in cotton, lawn, khaddar, linen, chiffon and silk, sold by the suit length or the metre.
• Ready-to-wear clothing, often sold in bundles to retailers.
• Bridal and party cloth, including embroidered and heavily worked pieces.
• Linings, laces and trims in the surrounding lanes.

Shops that sell only wholesale may have minimum quantities, which we could not confirm. Ask up front if a shop will sell a single suit at the same rate.

When to go

Guides recommend arriving between 9:30 and 10:30am, when traffic is lighter and shopkeepers are fresh. Weekday mornings are calmer than weekends.

Closing times are not fixed. In 2026 the Punjab government has applied market closing rules for energy saving: from 4 June 2026, retail shops and markets close at 9pm daily, after an earlier 8pm rule. These rules have changed several times, so check the current one, and aim to finish shopping by late afternoon in any case.

Sources conflict on the weekly off day, and we could not verify one. Ask a shopkeeper the day before or call the market's contact number if you are travelling a long way.

How to get there

The market lies inside the Walled City, where roads are narrow and often jammed. Do not drive in unless you have to.

• Ride-hailing or rickshaw to the Shah Alam or Rang Mahal area, then walk. Ask the driver for the Azam Market gate.
• Parking. There is a parking plaza, but reports say it has no lift, so expect to walk.

Bargaining and buying tips

1. Compare three shops before you pay. Fabric that looks identical can vary a lot in price.
2. Start well below the asking price and settle in the middle. Hagglers commonly report ending 20 to 35 per cent lower than the first quote, but this is a rule of thumb, not a fixed rate.
3. Feel and check the cloth. Unroll a metre in daylight, look at the print and pull the weave.
4. Measure while they cut. Ask for the length to be measured in front of you.
5. Keep small notes. Cash is expected, and change is often short.
6. Ask for a receipt for costly fabric, in case of a dispute.
7. Watch your phone and wallet. The lanes are crowded.

Is it worth going?

If you are buying for a wedding, or a large family order, yes: the choice and the price can justify a morning. If you want a couple of suits, Anarkali Bazaar and Liberty Market are easier to reach and shop, though prices are usually higher.
