Nathia Gali Hotels: Where to Stay, Prices and Heating

Nathia Gali hotels range from simple rooms in and around the bazaar to the DoubleTree by Hilton that opened in August 2025, with long-running mid-range places such as Hotel Elites in between. Going by 2025–2026 listings, expect very roughly PKR 4,000 to 10,000 a night for a budget room midweek, PKR 12,000 to 30,000 for a mid-range hotel, and PKR 40,000 or more at the top end. Weekends, Eid and the first snowfall push prices up and fill rooms early, and in winter the heating matters more than the view.

Where to stay: bazaar, ridge road or a quieter gali?

Nathia Gali is small, and where you stay within it changes the trip more than the name of the hotel.

In and around the bazaar

The cheapest rooms are here, in small hotels and guesthouses above and beside the shops. You can walk out for tea and dinner, and to the church and Lalazar. The drawbacks are noise, few views and very little parking, and the bazaar road is jammed on summer evenings and weekends.

Suits: groups of friends and couples on a budget, midweek.

Along the main road and the slopes above it

The larger hotels sit along the main road on either side of the bazaar and up the hillside behind it. Rooms are bigger, many have their own car parks, and the better ones face out over the valley. The bazaar is a short walk or drive away, which after a day on the trails is usually an advantage.

Suits: families, anyone with a car, and winter stays, because a hotel on the main road is easier to reach after snow.

Dunga Gali

Dunga Gali, 3 km towards Murree, has a smaller cluster of hotels and guesthouses. It is quieter in the evening and puts you at the start of the Pipeline Track and the shorter trail up Mushkpuri. Food choices are more limited.

Suits: walkers and couples who want a calmer base.

Private cottages and apartments

Many houses and apartments across the Galiyat are let by the night, usually through the booking websites. They suit larger families and groups who want a kitchen. Check the access road before booking: some are down steep lanes that a sedan struggles with in rain, and that may not be cleared quickly after snow.

Established hotels to know

• DoubleTree by Hilton Nathiagali opened on 19 August 2025 as Hilton's first hotel in Pakistan. It has 110 rooms, including 14 suites, and an indoor pool, spa, gym, several restaurants and a children's area. It sits at the top of the market in Nathia Gali, and it is where you go for a large, full-service hotel rather than hill-station character.
• Hotel Elites is a large, long-established hotel next to the Civil Hospital, with about 125 rooms, from standard rooms to three-bedroom apartments and villas for families. It advertises heating in winter and includes breakfast with its deluxe rooms.
• Green Retreat has been running for many years near the church and Lalazar, with gardens and a restaurant. Recent reviews are mixed, so read the latest before booking.

The provincial government and the Galiyat Development Authority also have rest houses in Nathia Gali, and since 2019 some, including the Governor House, have been opened to public bookings at times. Official use comes first and the arrangements change, so treat them as a possibility rather than a plan.

Beyond these, dozens of smaller hotels line the bazaar and the main road, with standards that vary a great deal. Book on the strength of recent reviews and recent photographs, not the hotel's name.

What does a room cost?

These are rough figures from 2025–2026 online listings and hotel rate cards. Prices change every season, and taxes may be added on top.

Two things catch people out. First, the rate you see online midweek is often not the rate on a Saturday night. Second, ask whether the price includes tax and breakfast, and whether an extra mattress for a child is charged; the answers vary from one hotel to the next.

Weekend and holiday price jumps

Nathia Gali is close enough to Islamabad, Rawalpindi and Peshawar to fill up at weekends in summer, and its busiest nights are predictable:

• Friday and Saturday nights from May to August
• Eid holidays, particularly Eid al-Adha, which falls in mid-May in 2027
• The 14 August long weekend
• The weekend after the first heavy snowfall, when the Galiyat fills with day-trippers and overnighters

On these nights, rates at many hotels rise sharply, the cheaper rooms sell out first, and walk-in bargaining goes out of the window. Arriving without a booking on a holiday weekend is a poor gamble: in the Murree snowstorm of January 2022, price gouging at hotels was one of the reasons visitors ended up spending the night in their cars.

How to avoid paying the peak:

1. Go midweek. Sunday to Thursday nights are much easier, and the town is calmer too.
2. Book early for fixed dates, and get the rate and what it includes in writing, even if only on WhatsApp.
3. Confirm the day before you travel, and keep the hotel's reply.
4. Look at Dunga Gali or the Abbottabad side if Nathia Gali itself is full.

Which rooms are worth paying for?

A good view is the main thing extra money buys in Nathia Gali, and "valley view" means different things at different hotels. Before you pay for an upgrade, ask:

• Does the room face the valley, or the road, the car park or the building next door? Ask for a photograph taken from the window.
• Is there a balcony, and does it get morning sun? Mornings are usually clearer than afternoons in summer.
• Which floor is it on? Higher rooms tend to see over the trees and the newer buildings.
• Is there building work next door? Construction has spread quickly along the ridge in recent years, and a view you booked from last year's photos may have gone.

A room at the back of a good hotel is often better value than the best room in a poor one.

Heating and winter stays

Nathia Gali is cool even in summer, with nights of around 13 to 16 °C, and in winter the lows fall to around freezing or below. In a winter stay the heating decides whether the trip is a pleasure or an ordeal.

Ask before booking:

• What kind of heating does the room have? A gas heater, an electric heater, or built-in heating in some of the larger hotels.
• Does it run when the power goes? Heavy snow often brings power cuts in the hills, as it did in March 2025, so ask whether the hotel has a generator and what it covers.
• Is there hot water all day, and are extra blankets available?
• Is the heating included in the rate?

Never sleep with a gas heater burning in a closed room. Keep the room ventilated while it runs and switch it off before you sleep, because carbon monoxide gives no warning.

Parking and getting there

Most mid-range and larger hotels have car parks; many small places in the bazaar do not. Confirm parking when you book, and ask whether it is on site or down the road, because finding a space in the bazaar at the weekend can take longer than the last stretch of the drive.

Which stay suits whom?

• Families with children or older parents: a mid-range or larger hotel on the main road, with its own car park and restaurant. A family apartment in a large hotel works well for bigger groups.
• Couples: a room with a valley view and a balcony, midweek, or a quieter hotel in Dunga Gali.
• Groups of friends on a budget: guesthouses around the bazaar midweek, or a rented apartment split between you.
