Why Murree feels so different in summer
At 2,291 metres, Murree sits well above the heat of the plains, and the gap is largest in the hottest months. May and June bring the most comfortable weather of the year: warm days in the low to mid 20s and cool nights, with rainfall at its lowest point before the monsoon arrives. When the crowds actually peak
- Every weekend from May to August, worst from Friday evening through Sunday afternoon.
- The school summer holidays, which fill weekdays as well as weekends through June and July.
- Eid al-Adha, which now falls in the early summer window; check the date each year, since it moves back by about ten days annually.
- 14 August, one of the single busiest days of the year across the whole town.

The early start that actually works
The single biggest difference between a relaxed summer day and a frustrating one is what time you leave.
- Leave Islamabad by 7 or 8 am. You reach Murree ahead of most day-trippers and find parking that will be gone within a couple of hours.
- Do your main sightseeing before lunch. The Mall, a viewpoint or Patriata are all calmer in the morning; by early afternoon the crowds, the heat of the day and the queues all build together.
- Have lunch out of the main rush, at Lower Topa or Bhurban rather than on the Mall itself at midday.
- Leave Murree by mid-afternoon if you are driving back the same day. Traffic downhill on a Sunday afternoon, or the last day of a long weekend, is its own kind of jam.

Cooler, quieter spots to add to the day
Murree town itself gets crowded in summer, but a short drive or walk finds calmer ground:

- Lower Topa, a few kilometres below Murree on the Expressway, sits among pine forest and makes an easy, calmer base or lunch stop.
- The Galiyat ridge, north of Murree towards Nathia Gali, is higher, greener and noticeably less built up than the town.
- Pindi Point, at the quieter end of the Mall, catches an evening breeze and is a pleasant place to end the day once the afternoon heat and crowds have eased.
Evening walks
Summer evenings in Murree are the most pleasant part of the day: the heat of the afternoon has gone, the light is soft, and the Mall fills with families walking rather than driving. A slow walk from GPO Chowk towards Kashmir Point, or out towards Pindi Point for the view over the plains as the lights come on, is a better use of a summer evening than trying to squeeze in one more drive.
