What does a KPK tour package usually include?
Most packages cover the same core items:
- Transport from a starting point (often Islamabad or Lahore) in a coaster, Hiace or car with a driver
- Hotel rooms, usually twin sharing
- A driver, and sometimes a guide or trip coordinator
- Jeep rides where the road needs them, such as Saif ul Malook or Kumrat
- Some meals, often breakfast only
What is often left out is where price comparisons go wrong: lunch and dinner, park and site entry fees, boat rides, horses, tips, and any flight or bus to the starting city. Ask for the inclusions in writing, line by line.
Typical routes and how they are priced
Hazara and Kaghan (Naran, Shogran, Saif ul Malook, Babusar). The most common package. Group prices quoted for three days from Lahore run from about PKR 17,000 to 27,000 per person depending on how many share, with fewer sharers costing more. Private five-day versions are quoted at around PKR 55,000 per person, and premium resort packages much higher.
Swat and Kalam. Operators quote Kalam packages from about PKR 12,500 per person for groups, and four to five day family versions from PKR 69,000 to 78,000 per family group. Do read the safety section below before booking.
Kumrat. Three-day group trips from Lahore are quoted at roughly PKR 14,500 to 16,500 per person, while private versions are quoted far higher. Kumrat is in Upper Dir.

From Lahore versus from Karachi
One operator's 2026 page quotes a three-day Naran package at PKR 15,000 per person from Lahore and PKR 30,000 from Karachi. Karachi is much further from the hills, so before comparing, check whether a quote starts at Islamabad or includes your transport there, and whether flights are counted at all.
Group tour or private tour?

How to compare quotes
- Compare like with like: same number of nights, same hotel level, same meals.
- Ask which hotels, by name, and check they exist and are open in your dates.
- Ask how many people share a room and a vehicle.
- Ask what happens if a road closes or it rains: refund, shorter trip, or re-routing.
- Ask how much to pay in advance, and pay to a business account where you can.

Is it safe to book a package to KPK?
It depends on the route. The UK government's Pakistan advice (updated 22 September 2026) advises against all travel to Swat, Upper and Lower Dir, and the Kalash valleys, and against all travel on the Karakoram Highway between Mansehra and Chilas. A suicide bombing in Kabal, Swat, on 2 August 2026 killed 17 people.
Naran, Kaghan and the Galiyat are not on that list. Pakistani visitors still travel to Swat and Kumrat, but check local news and current police advice before you leave, and ask any operator how it handles route changes. A package makes sense if you do not have a car, have not driven mountain roads, or want everything arranged. It makes less sense if you have your own car and a route in mind, because you pay for a driver and coordination you may not need.
