Karachi to Khuzdar is roughly 380 to 400 km by road on the N-25 (RCD Highway), through Hub, Uthal and Bela. Route planners put the drive at about five and a half hours without stops, while travel guides written by people who made the trip say five to seven hours, and heavy truck traffic, checkpoints and the condition of the road can add more. It is a long day drive, not a casual weekend run, and it crosses Balochistan, where security advisories apply.

What is the route from Karachi to Khuzdar?
There is one practical route, the N-25. It leaves Karachi northwards, crosses into Balochistan at Hub, and continues through Uthal and Bela before climbing into the hills to Khuzdar. Uthal is about 112 km from Karachi on a straight-line measure, so road distances are a little longer. From Bela to Khuzdar the road distance is about 211 km, and most of the remaining hill driving is on that stretch.
The N-25 continues beyond Khuzdar to Surab, Kalat, Mastung and Quetta. The whole Karachi to Chaman highway is about 813 km. If you are going further, see Quetta to Khuzdar by road and our guide to Karachi to Quetta by road.
How long does the drive take?
Sources differ, and the difference is real. One route planner gives about 5 hours 30 minutes, a Zameen guide gives about five hours and a PakWheels-based account says seven. The spread comes from how much time people lose on:
- The Karachi and Hub stretch, which is heavy with trucks.
- Security checkpoints, where you need original CNICs.
- Slow traffic in the hills beyond Bela, where the road is hillier.
Plan for a full day, leave early, and aim to arrive in daylight rather than relying on the best-case number. Because of the night ban, a late start is not an option.
Night travel restrictions
Since late March 2025 the Balochistan government has restricted night travel on the N-25, with the restricted hours given as 6pm to 6am. Dawn reported that public transport was prohibited from running at night, and that buses were told to leave Karachi and Quetta in morning windows. The notifications said "till further orders", so check the current position. We explain the rules in the Balochistan night travel ban guide.
Road condition
The N-25 is known as the "killer highway": Wikipedia cites Bureau of Statistics figures of more than 4,000 road deaths between 2012 and 2022. Flood damage has also affected the route, including the collapse of a bridge at Hub in 2022.
The National Highway Authority started reconstruction on 5 December 2025, with a plan for a four-lane dual carriageway from Karachi to Chaman within two years. Until it is finished, expect roadworks, diversions and slow trucks. Keep your speed down, avoid overtaking blind and don't drive tired.
Is the Karachi to Khuzdar road safe?
The UK advises against all travel to Balochistan, and travel there can void insurance for overseas visitors. Pakistani travellers use this road daily, but you should treat it seriously. Khuzdar itself saw a suicide bombing of a school bus on 21 May 2025, and in September 2026 the military reported an operation against militants who had set up an illegal checkpoint on the N-25 near Kalat, further along the same highway.
If you go:
- Check local news and police advice on the day you leave.
- Drive only in daylight and tell someone your route.
- Carry original CNICs for everyone, along with water, snacks and a full tank.
- Use a well-maintained car or an established coach company.
Overseas visitors should check their own government's advice first. See our Balochistan safety guide for more.
What is on the way?
Bela is the main stop and it is also the gateway to the Gondrani caves, which we cover in our Gondrani caves guide. Beyond Bela the route is mostly hills and open country with few services, so fill up at Hub or Bela. Travellers also mention tea stops and a restaurant near Khuzdar, but we can't vouch for them.
The cave shrine of Lahoot Lamakan is reached from the Hub side rather than from Khuzdar city. See Lahoot Lamakan, and our places to visit in Khuzdar for what the area offers. For general advice, our travel guide is a place to start.
