Mall Road after dark
The Mall is where the evening happens. Families walk up and down between GPO Chowk and the two ends of town, food stalls do steady business, and in summer it stays busy well after sunset. As of 2026, reports say shops on the Mall are closing earlier than before, by around 8pm, with restaurants allowed to stay open later, to about 10pm, as part of a policy to cut evening energy use. Late food
Eating is the most reliable night-time activity. The Mall's restaurants and food stalls serve into the evening, with grilled food, fast food and the usual North Punjab menu of karahi, barbecue and paratha rolls. Pindi Point after dark is worth a separate mention for a different reason: on a clear evening it looks the other way, over the lit-up plain towards Rawalpindi and Islamabad, which is its own kind of night view even without the stars.
Winter nights: what to know
Winter is when Murree's evenings change character completely. On 7 and 8 January 2022, a heavy snowstorm trapped thousands of vehicles on the roads in and out of Murree overnight; at least 23 people died, most from hypothermia after being stuck in stationary cars for hours, with a few deaths linked to carbon monoxide from engines left running for heat. An official inquiry, documented on Wikipedia, found the disaster was made worse because far more vehicles had been allowed onto the roads than they could handle, with no early warning as the weather closed in.
