Where is Quetta airport and what is it like?
The airport sits south-west of the city on the plain of Samungli. It opened in 1947, its terminal building dates from 1982, and the main concourse hall was inaugurated in 2001, according to Wikipedia. It has two long runways, over 3,600 metres each, which is why wide-body aircraft can use it.
It is a modest airport by the standard of Karachi or Lahore. There are separate domestic and international areas, and the usual basics: ticketing counters, ATMs, small shops and rent-a-car desks. Do not expect a wide choice of food or lounges, and eat before you leave if you have a long wait.
Passenger numbers have been growing. Wikipedia gives 535,065 passengers for July 2024 to June 2025, up about 25 per cent on the year before.

How do I get from Quetta airport to the city?
Distance is about 12 kilometres, and most people take one of these:
- Taxi or rickshaw. Readily available outside arrivals. There is no fixed fare, so agree the price before you get in.
- Pre-arranged pickup. Hotels and hosts will send a car if asked. This is the easiest option for a first visit, especially after dark.
- Rent-a-car. Counters are at the terminal, but hiring a self-drive car in Quetta is a decision to think through, given the security situation.
- Ride-hailing apps. Coverage in Quetta is limited and changes, so do not assume one will work.

Is it safe to fly into Quetta?
The airport is in Balochistan, and the UK government advises against all travel to all of Balochistan. Serious attacks have hit Quetta in recent years, including a suicide bombing near Chaman Phatak on 24 May 2026 that killed at least 47 people.
