Multan International Airport (code MUX) is the main airport of southern Punjab, on the western side of the city. Sources put it between about 4 and 10 km from the centre depending on where they measure from, and the drive into the old city by taxi or ride-hailing app usually takes 20 to 30 minutes outside rush hour. It handles domestic flights to the big cities and international flights mostly to the Gulf.

This guide covers what is in the terminal, who flies there, how to get into town and what to do if you land very early or very late. If you are choosing between flying and the train or road, see our notes on Lahore to Multan by train.

Who flies to Multan?

Flight-schedule sites listed around ten airlines serving Multan in August 2026. On the domestic side these include PIA, Airblue and AirSial; flydubai, Air Arabia, Qatar Airways, Salam Air and Saudia connect it abroad. Schedules change often, so check the airline's own site before you book rather than relying on any list, including this one.

Domestic routes link Multan with Karachi, Lahore and Islamabad. International routes run to the UAE, Qatar, Bahrain, Oman and Saudi Arabia, which makes it a practical arrival point for overseas Pakistanis visiting family in the south of the province.

Multan is also a useful gateway to the rest of the south. From here you can reach Bahawalpur, Uch Sharif and Derawar by road, which we cover in our Multan to Bahawalpur guide.

What is inside the terminal?

The terminal opened in 2015 and has four jet bridges. The airport has immigration and customs facilities for international flights, a medical centre and prayer facilities, and a cargo complex. The runway is long enough for wide-body aircraft.

Expect the facilities to be basic compared with Lahore or Islamabad. Carry a power bank and some cash, and do not count on a wide choice of food after security.

How to get into the city

There are four usual options.

  1. Airport taxi. Metro Cab and other taxi desks operate at the parking area, and forum posts describe them as available at all hours, including very early mornings. Quoted fares range from about PKR 800 to 1,200 at a pre-paid counter (2026 guide) to about PKR 2,000 in one traveller's account. Agree the fare before you get in.
  2. Ride-hailing apps. Careem, inDrive and Yango are mentioned by travellers. One guide gives PKR 600 to 1,000 for a ride to the centre. Pick-up can take longer in the small hours, and prices move with demand.
  3. Rickshaw. Auto-rickshaws wait near the parking area. They are cheaper but slower, and not comfortable with large luggage.
  4. Hotel pick-up or rental car. Some hotels arrange transfers; ask when booking. Self-drive and with-driver rentals are available from about PKR 4,000 a day according to one guide.

All prices change. Treat them as a starting point for negotiation, not a quote.

The drive to the old city

Multan Fort, the Ghanta Ghar area and the main shrines are all within the old city, and one guide puts them within 6 to 7 km of the airport. The roads in between are busy with rickshaws and motorbikes, and traffic builds up in the evening and around shrine events.

If you have a flight to catch, leave a generous margin for the return journey and allow extra time during urs days, when roads around the shrines are closed or crowded. For ideas once you arrive, read our guide to the places to visit in Multan.

Where to stay near the airport

Most visitors choose a hotel in the Cantt area or near the old city rather than beside the airport. Hotels in the cantonment and along the main roads are closer to restaurants and sit within a short taxi ride of the terminal. Our where to stay in Multan guide compares the areas.

If you land at an awkward hour, book the night before. Check-in at many hotels is only from the afternoon, so ask about early arrival.

Flying or taking the train?

The airport suits you if you are coming from Karachi, from abroad, or are short of time. From Lahore or Islamabad the train or motorway is often more practical once you add airport check-in and the transfer at each end. Multan Cantonment railway station is under 3 km from the airport, which makes it easy to combine a flight in with a train out.

Summer heat is worth remembering. Multan is among the hottest cities in Pakistan from May to August, so a midday arrival is much easier with a pre-booked car than a search for a taxi. Our best time to visit Multan page covers the seasons.
