Lahore to Skardu Flights: Direct Options and Fares

Yes, there is a direct Lahore to Skardu flight. PIA and Airblue both fly the route non-stop, in about an hour and 20 to 35 minutes, and in 2026 booking sites showed roughly six to eight direct flights a week between them, most leaving Lahore in the middle of the morning. One-way fares for autumn 2026 dates started at around PKR 19,000. The catch is frequency: with only one flight on most days, a weather cancellation can cost you more than a day, which is why many Lahore travellers still go through Islamabad.

Who flies direct from Lahore to Skardu?

Two airlines fly the route non-stop, both with Airbus jets.

• PIA has flown Lahore to Skardu on and off for several years. After a break, it restarted the route in June 2023 with two flights a week, and it has run a few flights a week in the seasons since.
• Airblue added Lahore to Skardu in its summer 2025 schedule, from 30 March 2025, planned at three flights a week on an A320, with departures from Lahore at around 9.30 in the morning. It now flies to Skardu from Lahore, Islamabad and Karachi.

Put together, booking sites in August and September 2026 showed six to eight direct flights a week, with departures between about 9.30 am and noon. The days are not fixed: each airline reworks its Skardu schedule every season, and the service is built around the tourist months. Outside summer, expect fewer direct flights and check that one actually runs on your day before building a plan around it.

Some tickets sold as "Lahore to Skardu" stop on the way, so look for "non-stop" before you pay.

How much is a flight from Lahore to Skardu?

Fares move a lot with the date and with how early you book. As a rough guide from 2026 listings:

• Cheapest one-way fares, on quieter dates in late September and early October 2026: about PKR 19,000 to 24,000.
• Peak dates, meaning July, August, Eid, 14 August and long weekends: fares climb steeply and can pass PKR 50,000 one way, especially when booked late.
• Return tickets on quieter dates started at around PKR 46,000.

These are indications, not quotes, and prices change daily. For summer travel, booking about six weeks ahead usually gets you a better fare than waiting. Compare both airlines on the same day, because the gap can be large, and check the baggage in your fare: cheaper fare types can include less checked baggage, and warm clothes for Deosai add weight quickly.

Direct from Lahore, or via Islamabad?

Islamabad has far more flights to Skardu than Lahore, from three airlines (PIA, Airblue and, since May 2026, AirSial), with several departures on most days in summer. That changes the maths for anyone in Lahore.

There are two ways to use it:

1. Drive or take the coach to Islamabad the evening before. The M-2 takes four to five hours. Stay near the airport and take the earliest Skardu flight in the morning. You pay for a hotel night, but you get the most frequent service and the best choice of fares.
2. Fly direct from Lahore, with Islamabad as the fallback. If the Lahore flight is cancelled, you can ask to be moved to an Islamabad flight, drive up the motorway and try again the next morning.

The direct flight is simpler when it runs on your day at a reasonable fare: no motorway drive and no extra night away.

How reliable are Lahore to Skardu flights?

The flight from Lahore is exposed to exactly the same weather as every other flight into Skardu. The airport sits among high mountains, and flights go only when visibility along the route and at Skardu is good. When cloud comes down, flights are held, delayed or cancelled, often on the day itself.

A few patterns hold:

• Winter and spring are the worst. In April 2025, with unsettled weather over the north, private airline flights from Lahore and Islamabad to Skardu were held on standby and delayed, while PIA's Gilgit flights from both cities were cancelled outright.
• Summer is more dependable, but monsoon cloud still grounds flights in July and August.
• Autumn is usually settled. October and November are among Skardu's driest months, although that is no guarantee on a given morning.
• Not every cancellation is weather. In spring 2025, northern flights were also cancelled at short notice during the tension with India.

What makes the Lahore route riskier is frequency. From Islamabad, a cancelled flight can often be rebooked for the next day. From Lahore, the next direct flight may be two or three days away, and in July or August it fills up fast.

What to do if your Lahore flight is cancelled

Decide your fallback before you fly, not at the check-in desk.

1. Ask about every option the airline can offer, not only the next direct flight. A seat from Islamabad the next morning may get you there sooner than the next Lahore departure.
2. Take the motorway if the Islamabad seat is sooner. Four to five hours up the M-2 to Islamabad is a small price if it saves two days of waiting.
3. Keep the refund option in mind. When the airline cancels, you are usually entitled to a later seat or a refund of the unused ticket, but not to compensation for weather. Our guide to flight cancellations in Gilgit and Skardu explains how rebooking and refunds work.
4. Know the road. Lahore to Skardu by road is about 1,000 km and two long days, which is covered in our Lahore to Skardu road guide.

The same thinking applies on the way home. The aircraft that flies you back to Lahore is the one that has just landed in Skardu, so if the morning is cloudy, your flight out is usually cancelled with the flight in.

How to book so the trip survives a cancellation

• Keep a spare day at the end, never at the start. If the flight home is cancelled, you lose a day of holiday instead of a day of work. We build one into our own Skardu and Deosai trip for exactly this reason.
• Don't connect to anything tight, such as an international flight or a wedding, the day after you fly out of Skardu.
• Put Deosai and the long days in the middle of the trip, where a lost day can be absorbed.
• Buy a fare you can change, or at least know what a change costs before you book.
• Carry your CNIC, and a B-Form for children. Foreign nationals need a passport with a valid visa.
• Book a hotel pick-up. Skardu airport is about 20 to 30 minutes west of the town, and most hotels will send a car if you ask.

Fly direct, go via Islamabad, or drive?

Fly direct from Lahore if your trip is a week or less, the direct flight runs on your day at a sensible fare, and you are travelling with children or older parents who would find two days on the road hard.

Go via Islamabad if your dates are fixed and the trip is short. The extra evening on the motorway buys you the most frequent service into Skardu and the most options when the weather turns. It is also the better choice outside summer, when direct flights from Lahore are thinner.

Drive if you have nine days or more, want your own car in Baltistan, or are four or five people sharing costs. It is also the only plan that doesn't depend on the weather over the mountains.
