Karachi to Skardu Flights: Direct and Connecting

There is a direct Karachi to Skardu flight, but only on a few days a week. PIA and Airblue have both flown the route non-stop in 2025 and 2026, usually leaving Karachi around 6 in the morning and landing in Skardu about two and a quarter hours later. On other days, or when the direct flight is full, you connect through Islamabad or Lahore, which have far more flights into Skardu.

Is there a direct flight from Karachi to Skardu?

Yes, on some days. Airblue launched a non-stop Karachi–Skardu service in May 2025, twice a week, adding to its Islamabad and Lahore routes. PIA also flies Karachi to Skardu; its spring 2025 schedule listed flights on Wednesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays, and other schedules have used different days.

The pattern that holds across schedules:

• Departures are early. The non-stop flights have generally left Karachi around 6 am and landed in Skardu soon after 8.
• The days change. Airlines rework their Skardu schedules each season, so check the actual days for your travel month rather than relying on last year's.
• Summer has the most flights. The direct service is strongest from spring to autumn. In winter, expect fewer direct departures and plan on connecting.
• Not every "Karachi to Skardu" ticket is non-stop. Some itineraries are sold under one booking but stop in Islamabad or Lahore. If you want the direct flight, look for "non-stop" before you pay.

Connecting through Islamabad

This is the most flexible way to fly from Karachi to Skardu. Karachi to Islamabad is about a two-hour flight, served many times a day by several airlines. From Islamabad, the Skardu flight takes about an hour. PIA has run the route for decades, Airblue has flown it since 2022, and AirSial began Islamabad–Skardu flights in May 2026. There are two ways to put the journey together.

On one ticket

If the airline flies both legs, book them together. If the Karachi flight is late and you miss the Skardu connection, the airline has to rebook you. The catch is that Skardu flights leave in the morning, so a tight same-day connection only works if your Karachi flight is very early.

On separate tickets, with a night in Islamabad

Many travellers fly Karachi to Islamabad the evening before and take the first Skardu flight the next morning. It costs a hotel night, but it takes the connection risk away completely, and it lets you mix airlines to find a cheaper fare on each leg. If the Skardu flight is cancelled, you are already in Islamabad, and the road north is an option.

Connecting through Lahore

Lahore is the other hub with regular Skardu flights. PIA and Airblue both fly Lahore to Skardu in about an hour and a half, and in summer 2026 there were around eight flights a week. It is worth checking when the Islamabad flights are sold out, which happens in July, August and over Eid, and it makes sense for anyone from Karachi who is combining Skardu with a stop in Lahore.

What do Karachi to Skardu flights cost?

Fares on these routes move a lot with the season and with how close to the date you book. As a rough guide from 2026 listings:

• Direct, one way: roughly PKR 30,000 at the cheaper end to more than PKR 60,000 in peak weeks.
• Islamabad to Skardu, one way: from under PKR 20,000 to over PKR 40,000, again depending on the date.
• Karachi to Islamabad: add this to the Skardu leg if you connect. It is a busy, competitive route, and there are usually several fares to choose from.

Prices change constantly, so treat these as a sense of scale rather than a quote. For July, August, Eid and the school holidays, book six to eight weeks ahead if you can. In the shoulder months a couple of weeks is usually enough.

A family of four flying direct in peak season can spend more on flights than on the rest of the trip combined. That is worth knowing before you choose between flying and a longer road trip.

Weather, cancellations and the spare day

Every flight into Skardu depends on the weather over the mountains. The route passes close to Nanga Parbat, and if the cloud is low, flights are delayed or cancelled. It happens more in winter and early spring and less from June to September, but it can happen in any month.

What that means in practice:

• Keep a spare day at the end of the trip, not at the start. If your flight in is cancelled, you lose a day of sightseeing. If your flight out is cancelled and you have no slack, you miss work, school or an onward flight.
• A cancelled direct flight can mean a long wait. With only a few direct flights a week, the next one may be days away. Ask to be moved onto an Islamabad connection instead.
• In summer, seats fill fast. A cancellation in July leaves a queue of passengers for the next flights. This is the main reason we build a spare day into every Skardu trip we plan.
• Flights out go when flights in arrive. The aircraft that leaves Skardu is the one that has just landed there, so when the weather stops the morning arrival, the departure is cancelled with it. Be at your hotel, packed and reachable by phone, until your flight is confirmed.
• The road is the fallback. From Islamabad, Skardu is two days by road over Babusar in summer or up the KKH. Our Islamabad to Skardu road guide covers both routes.

Baggage, seats and arriving in Skardu

Baggage. PIA's standard domestic allowance has been 20 kg of checked baggage. Airblue's depends on the fare you buy, and the cheapest fares may carry less. If you are bringing trekking or camping kit, buy extra baggage when you book, which is cheaper than paying at the counter.

Seats. On a clear day the flight into Skardu is part of the trip. Coming from the south, Nanga Parbat usually appears on the left side of the aircraft, so ask for a left-hand window if you care about the view.

Arriving. Skardu's airport sits at 2,225 metres, about 20 to 30 minutes' drive from town. Taxis wait outside, and most hotels will send a car if you ask in advance.

The altitude. Coming straight from sea level, you will feel 2,200 metres a little: slight breathlessness on stairs, perhaps poor sleep the first night. Take the first afternoon easy and drink plenty of water. Our travel guide has more on altitude across the north.

Direct, connecting, or by road: which suits you?

Fly direct if your dates fit the direct days, you are travelling with children or older parents, and the fare is reasonable. It is the simplest journey from Karachi, with no airport change and a morning arrival.

Connect through Islamabad if the direct flight is full, doesn't fly on your day, or is much more expensive. With a night in Islamabad on the way up, it is also the least stressful option if the weather turns.

Drive only if Skardu is part of a longer road trip through the north. From Karachi it is a very long way, and most of that time is spent getting to Islamabad.
