A Fairy Meadows trip costs roughly PKR 12,000 to over 30,000 per person for two nights on the meadow in 2026, depending mostly on where you sleep, before you add the journey from Islamabad or Lahore. The one cost nobody avoids is the jeep from Raikot Bridge to Tato: about PKR 16,000 to 20,000 per jeep for the round trip, so the size of your group changes the per-person figure more than anything else.
Below is each cost in turn, with the rough 2025–2026 figures we could verify, then sample budgets and the easiest ways to spend less. Prices here change every season, often sharply, so treat every number as a guide and carry more cash than the arithmetic says.

The jeep: the cost you can't avoid
Only local jeeps are allowed on the 15 km track from Raikot Bridge to Tato, and the drivers' union fixes the fare. You pay per jeep, not per seat, for the ride up and the ride down on a day you agree in advance. There is no bargaining.
The fare has roughly doubled since 2023, when it was quoted at under PKR 8,000. In 2025 visitors paid PKR 16,100 to 17,100, and 2026 guides quote PKR 16,000 to 20,000, higher in the July peak. Split between four people, that is about PKR 4,000 to 5,000 each. For a couple on their own, it is PKR 8,000 to 10,000 each, which is why it pays for couples to share a jeep with another group at the bridge.

Where you sleep: the biggest variable
Rooms on the meadow are wooden cabins, cottages and tents in locally run lodges, and prices depend on what you get:
- Basic cabins have been reported at around PKR 3,500 to 6,000 a night in 2025–2026, sometimes after a little negotiation outside peak weeks.
- Better cottages with their own bathroom and a view of Nanga Parbat run from about PKR 10,000 to 15,000 a night, and more for the largest family units.
- Your own tent, pitched at a lodge's campsite, costs about PKR 1,000 to 2,000 a night.
Some places include breakfast in the room rate and some don't, so ask when you book. Rates rise in July, August and around Eid and the 14 August holiday, when rooms also fill up. Our guide to Fairy Meadows hotels and cottages covers the choices in detail, including the quieter huts at Beyal.
Food and tea at the meadow
Everything eaten on the meadow has come up by jeep and then on a horse's back, and the prices reflect that. In 2025–2026 a simple plate of daal and rice, or a basic curry with roti, typically costs PKR 500 to 1,000, and tea is extra. At Beyal and the Nanga Parbat viewpoint, further up, the same food costs more again.
Most visitors eat at their lodge's dining room. For two nights, budget roughly PKR 3,000 to 6,000 per person for six meals, plus tea and snacks. Bringing dry fruit, biscuits and a refillable bottle from Chilas saves a surprising amount over a few days.
Horses and porters
The walk from Tato to the meadow is 5 km and climbs 700 to 800 metres. You don't need to pay anyone to do it, but plenty of people do:
- A horse to ride up costs roughly PKR 2,500 to 4,000 one way (2025–2026). Coming down is cheaper, and some owners offer a round-trip price.
- A horse for bags is priced by load; a few heavy bags can cost as much as a rider.
- Porters charge about PKR 1,500 to 3,000 depending on the load and the distance.
Agree the price at Tato before anything is loaded, and confirm whether it is one way or both. The same applies if you hire a horse or a guide for the walk to Beyal or base camp.
Getting to Raikot Bridge: the part that varies most
This is where two trips to Fairy Meadows can differ by tens of thousands of rupees.
- Your own car. Fuel for roughly 1,000 km there and back from Islamabad, or about 1,700 km from Lahore, plus motorway tolls, plus parking at Raikot Bridge while you are on the meadow. Mountain driving uses more fuel than the distance suggests.
- A car and driver. You pay a daily rate for every day of the trip, including the days the driver waits at the bottom, plus the driver's food and room.
- Coach. The cheapest way. Coaches from Rawalpindi and Islamabad towards Gilgit pass Raikot Bridge, and you can get off there.
- Flight to Gilgit. The fastest way, but fares change with demand and the flight is weather-dependent, so price in the chance of a cancelled flight and a night in Gilgit.
Then add a hotel for each night on the road. The usual stops are Naran, Besham and Chilas, and Naran in particular charges more on summer weekends and holidays. Our route guide from Islamabad explains which stop fits which route.

These are our rough sums from the figures above, for two nights on the meadow, four people sharing one jeep and two rooms. They are estimates, not quotes, and they leave out the journey to Raikot Bridge.

A couple on their own pays more, mainly because they carry the whole jeep and a whole room. A family of six filling one jeep and a family cottage pays noticeably less per head.
How to keep the cost down
- Fill the jeep. Five or six people in one jeep is the single biggest saving. Ask other families at the bridge if you are a small group.
- Go on weekdays, outside Eid and 14 August. Rooms are cheaper and easier to bargain for when the meadow is quiet.
- Take a basic cabin. You spend most of your time outside anyway, and the view is the same.
- Eat simply. Daal, rice and roti cost far less than anything with meat.
- Carry snacks and a water filter from Chilas or Gilgit.
- Walk up. A horse is worth it for children and older parents, but fit adults save several thousand rupees each.
- Bring enough cash. There is no ATM beyond Chilas or Gilgit, and running short on the meadow is expensive to fix.
Is it worth the money?
For a group of four to six, Fairy Meadows is reasonable value: the fixed costs are shared, and you wake up in front of Nanga Parbat. For a couple travelling alone, the fixed jeep fare and the room rates make it an expensive short trip, and it is worth teaming up with another group.
