A budget trip to Balochistan is cheapest as a group package or a bus ride from Karachi. In 2026 operators list three-day Quetta and Ziarat group trips from about PKR 19,500 per person, a Karachi to Quetta bus seat costs roughly PKR 2,200 to 7,000 each way depending on the coach, and a flight costs about PKR 8,000 to 25,000. Add a hotel and a car for the Ziarat leg and a do-it-yourself trip comes out at a similar figure to a package, with more freedom and more to organise.

This guide breaks the budget into transport, rooms and local travel, using prices published in 2026. Prices change with season and demand, so treat each figure as a range for planning, not a quote.

Getting there: bus, flight or package

Transport is the largest single cost, and the choice is mostly between time and money.

Bus

Listings on booking sites show Daewoo and other coach tickets between Karachi and Quetta at roughly PKR 3,000 to 4,000, with a wider spread of PKR 2,200 to 7,000 depending on the company and class. The road is about 685 km and listings give a journey time of around 10 hours. Our guide to Karachi to Quetta by road covers the route. Highways in the province restrict night travel, so check that your coach's schedule complies; the night travel ban guide explains the hours.

Flight

Airfare comparison sites show one-way fares between roughly PKR 8,000 for an early-booked seat and about PKR 25,000 for a late one. Booking early is the single biggest saving. Our Karachi to Quetta flight guide covers airlines and timings. For a short trip, a flight can cost little more than a bus plus an extra night's hotel, and it avoids a long day on the highway.

Group package

A group package bundles transport, a shared room, meals and entry fees. Listings show PKR 19,500 to 24,500 per person for three days from Karachi, with a four-day trip at PKR 23,500 and a higher "premium" tier. A package is often cheaper than assembling the same trip yourself, especially for solo travellers who would otherwise pay for a whole car. The trade-off is a fixed route and schedule. Our Balochistan tour packages guide explains what to check before you pay.

Where to stay

Booking sites show budget rooms in Quetta from roughly US$16 to 30 a night, which is about PKR 4,500 to 8,500 at around PKR 280 to the dollar; check the rate on the day. Mid-range hotels cost several times that, and booking sites average mid-range rooms at over US$100 in some listings. Prices in Quetta are lowest in summer, with August cited as the cheapest month on one comparison site, and highest around winter snowfall.

Ziarat has fewer rooms and prices rise sharply on snow weekends and in the summer holidays. See our guides to hotels in Quetta and Ziarat hotels for what is available. Sharing a room between three or four people is the main way to cut the cost, and group packages assume it.

Getting around: Quetta and Ziarat

Within Quetta, local taxis and ride-hailing are cheap on short trips; one fare calculator shows about PKR 65 per km for local taxis. The expensive part is Ziarat. A car with a driver from Quetta to Ziarat starts at about PKR 12,000 one way and runs up to about PKR 18,000 (2026 listings), for a drive of about 125 km and 2.5 to 3 hours. A 4x4 for the hill route in snow costs more, with one listing at PKR 22,000 to 30,000 a day.

Splitting a car between four people brings the Ziarat leg down to a few thousand rupees each, which is the best argument for travelling in a group. Our Ziarat trip cost guide goes deeper on that leg.

A rough budget, worked through

These examples add the published ranges above for two nights in Quetta and Ziarat. They are illustrations, not quotes, and leave out food, which varies by how you eat.

  • Package route: about PKR 19,500 to 24,500 per person for a three-day group trip, with meals and entry fees included in many listings.
  • Bus route, sharing: a return bus at PKR 6,000 to 8,000, a shared room at maybe PKR 2,000 to 4,000 per person per night, and a quarter of a car for Ziarat. That brings a three-day trip into the same range as the package, with more freedom.
  • Flight route: a return flight of PKR 16,000 to 50,000 changes the total considerably, but saves a day each way.

If the total on a package is far below these figures, ask where the saving comes from: the room, the vehicle or the meals.

What a budget trip should not cut

Some costs are not worth saving on in Balochistan.

  • Transport safety. A sound vehicle and an experienced driver matter more than the price; avoid very cheap lifts.
  • Daylight travel. Do not shorten a trip by driving through the night; it is the main reason for the highway restrictions.
  • Documents and registration. Carry your CNIC; hotels register every guest. See our guide to documents for Balochistan travel.
  • A buffer. Keep a spare day and some cash. Roads close, flights are delayed and trains are cancelled.

Is Balochistan safe on a budget?

The UK government advises against all travel to Balochistan, and cheaper options such as night buses and unregistered guesthouses do not make a trip safer. Pakistani travellers do visit Quetta, Ziarat and the coast, usually by day and often in groups. Check current local news and police advice before setting out. Overseas visitors should know their government's advice may say not to go, and that it can void travel insurance. See our guide to whether Balochistan is safe to travel for more.

Who a budget trip suits

A budget trip suits groups of friends and families from Karachi who can share rooms and a car, and who can travel by day. It suits less well a solo traveller, who pays the full price of a car, or anyone with limited time, for whom a flight is better value than an extra night of road. For help choosing places, see our guide to places to visit in Quetta and our travel guide.
