Bus is the cheapest way to get to Quetta, but it takes a day each way. For a trip of only four days that is a lot of the time, which is why many travellers fly in even if they come back by road.
Where you stay

Getting around Quetta and the day trips
Local rickshaws and taxis cover the city, but for Hanna Lake, Urak Valley and Ziarat most visitors hire a car with a driver.
- Sedan with driver: listings put this at about PKR 6,500 to 10,000 a day in 2026, depending on the car and vendor.
- SUV or 4x4 with driver: about PKR 15,000 to 30,000 a day.
- Ziarat, about 125 to 130 km away: hire quotes start from about PKR 12,000 and run higher for an SUV or a longer day.
Shared between a family or four friends, a car is better value than it looks. Our 3-day Quetta itinerary shows how many days of car hire you need. For the Ziarat side, our Ziarat trip cost guide breaks down the overnight option.
A sample 4-day budget
This example is for a group of four sharing a car and two budget rooms, travelling by bus and spending three nights in Quetta. All figures are rough ranges from the listings above.
- Bus tickets, return, for four: about PKR 24,000 to 48,000 (PKR 3,000 to 6,000 each way per person).
- Three nights in two budget rooms: about PKR 12,000 to 36,000.
- Two days of sedan hire with driver: about PKR 13,000 to 20,000.
- One Ziarat day by hired car: from about PKR 12,000.
That comes to roughly PKR 61,000 to 116,000 for the group before food, or about PKR 15,000 to 29,000 a head. If you fly, add the airfare per person. If you choose the Serena, which is priced in dollars on booking sites, the hotel line alone can be several times the budget figure, so the hotel is where the total can climb fastest.
We have left meals out because we could not find a reliable source for restaurant prices. Sajji and other local dishes vary a lot by restaurant, so budget generously. Our guide to sajji in Quetta says what to expect.
What else adds to the cost
- Entry fees. Hanna Lake and other sites may charge entry or boating fees, and we did not find a reliable current figure. Carry cash.
- Dry fruit and shopping. Quetta's dry fruit and embroidery are the common purchases, and our dry fruit market guide helps you plan for them.
- Winter. Heating, snow and peak December rates push costs up.
- Security arrangements. If you hold a foreign passport, you may need police permission and an escort in Quetta, which will cost extra and may mean a more restricted trip.
Is Quetta worth the cost?
For travellers who want a different Pakistan, with cool air, orchards, sajji and Ziarat's juniper forest, yes. But it is not a cheap, easy trip. Flights are pricey, the road is long, and the security situation has to be checked every time. The UK government advises against all travel to Balochistan, and a bombing near Chaman Phatak in Quetta on 24 May 2026 killed at least 47 people. Pakistani visitors still go, but check local news and police advice before you book, and do not pay non-refundable fares until you are confident the trip will go ahead. Our guide on whether Quetta is safe to visit covers this. Overseas visitors should check their own government's advice, as it can void insurance. Our travel guide has general planning advice.
