For the best kulfi in Lahore, go to Yousaf Falooda in Old Anarkali for falooda loaded with kulfa and rabri, to Benazir Kulfa near Liberty Market for sliced kulfa with lacchay, and to Chaman on Beadon Road, off the Mall, for kulfi-flavour ice cream topped with almonds and pistachios. If you are driving the GT Road, Sufi Suleman's kulfi at Rahwali, near Gujranwala, is worth the stop. Kulfi is at its best from April to September, and the old shops are busiest late in the evening.
This guide is about kulfi and falooda only. For the wider picture, including winter halwas and jalebi, see our guide to the best desserts in Lahore.

What is the difference between kulfi, kulfa and falooda?
Kulfi is milk cooked slowly until it thickens and reduces, sweetened, flavoured with nuts and cardamom, then frozen in sealed moulds. Because it is not churned like ice cream, it is dense and creamy rather than airy. It is widely thought to date to the Mughal court, and the name is said to come from a Persian word for a covered cup, a nod to the moulds.
Kulfa is the name many Lahore shops use for the same dense frozen milk dessert.
Falooda is the cold dessert built around it: thin vermicelli, basil seeds (tukh malanga), rose syrup and milk, topped in Lahore with kulfa or kulfi and sometimes rabri. Eaten together, the two make a full dessert, not a light one.
Where is the best falooda in Lahore?
Yousaf Falooda in Old Anarkali is the name most Lahoris give. Its falooda is made with rabri and kulfi, which Dunya News singled out as what sets it apart. Expect the cool kulfa, the soft noodles and crunchy nuts in one tall serving. It has long been a late-night stop for groups of friends, and in the 2024 heatwave people queued there for cold falooda in the middle of the day.
Old Anarkali has plenty of other food nearby, so make Yousaf the last stop of an evening. Our Anarkali Bazaar guide covers the market around it.
Where can you get kulfi and kulfa in Lahore?
Benazir Kulfa, Gulberg
Benazir Kulfa, on Noor Jehan Road by Liberty Market, is the best-known name for kulfa. Its signature is kulfa with lacchay, the thin, clear noodles. Daily Times called it the most supreme of Lahore's kulfas, and one food site summed it up as kulfa ho toh Benazir ka: if it's kulfa, it should be Benazir's. It is an easy stop after shopping at Liberty.
Shahi Kulfi, Ferozepur Road
Shahi Kulfi, on Ferozepur Road next to Punjab College, was recommended for its plain kulfi in a 2018 round-up of Lahore's best local ice cream shops. Check it is still trading before you go.
Chaman and Fiesta, Beadon Road
Chaman Ice Cream, on Beadon Road off the Mall, was opened in the 1970s by Muhammad Sadiq and served only two flavours at first: pista badaam and kulfi. When Roads and Kingdoms visited in 2013, his son Zubair was at the counter, and both were still served the old way, each scoop topped with shredded almonds and pistachios. Many flavours have been added since, but the kulfi flavour is the reason to go. Fiesta, on the same road, is the other local favourite for a heavily topped mango ice cream.
Chaman's kulfi is ice cream with a kulfi flavour, softer than true kulfi. Try both and decide which you prefer.
Is Rahwali kulfi worth the drive?
If you are on the GT Road between Lahore and Gujranwala, yes. Sufi Muhammad Suleman's kulfi at Rahwali, near the Cantt gate and about 17 km past Gujranwala on the way to Islamabad, has been sold since 1955, when Suleman, a folk musician, started selling it on foot through the villages. His grandsons now run two outlets, one on each side of the road, so you can stop in either direction. Servers run to waiting cars to take orders.
The family says the kulfi has six ingredients: milk, sugar, khoya, pistachios, cashew nuts and green cardamom. Unusually, it is busy in winter too, with people eating in their cars. See our Gujranwala food guide for the rest of the city.
For falooda outside Lahore, Kasur, south of the city, is famous for its own version; our Kasur food guide has more.
When is the best time to eat kulfi in Lahore?
Kulfi and falooda are summer food. April to September is when the shops are busiest and the stock turns over fastest, which also means it is freshest.
Two things to plan around:
- Closing times. Under federal fuel-saving rules issued in September 2026 for three months, restaurants and food outlets are asked to close by 11 pm, with takeaway exempt. Provinces decide how to apply them, so a midnight falooda run may not work. Go earlier, or take it away.
- Hygiene. Kulfi is milk, and milk spoils in the heat. Choose a busy shop, check that the kulfi is frozen hard, and avoid stalls where it has been sitting out.
We don't quote prices here. We could not find reliable 2025 or 2026 prices for these shops, and dairy prices change often. Kulfi and falooda generally cost less than imported ice cream brands.
Which kulfi shop suits you?
- For falooda: Yousaf Falooda, Old Anarkali.
- For kulfa: Benazir Kulfa near Liberty Market.
- For an old parlour with family seating: Chaman on Beadon Road.
- On a road trip north: Rahwali, on the GT Road.
If you only have one evening, have dinner in Anarkali and finish at Yousaf. More ideas are on our experiences page.
