Hotels in Gulmit are mostly small: family guesthouses and inns at the budget end, a handful of mid-range hotels and resorts, and very few large properties. Online listings in 2025 and 2026 put the cheapest rooms at roughly PKR 2,000 to 3,000 a night, typical inns and small hotels at about PKR 5,000 to 10,000, and the better resorts higher, especially from September to November. Prices change with the season and with Eid, so treat all of these as guides.
Gulmit is a good base for upper Hunza because it is quieter than Karimabad and closer to Passu, Attabad and the Khunjerab road. Budget stays: guesthouses and simple inns
The cheapest rooms are in family-run guesthouses and older tourist inns in and around the bazaar. Expect a bed, a private or shared bathroom, and a shared sitting area. Listing sites show prices from about the equivalent of PKR 5,000 a night for the most basic rated hotels, and locally advertised guesthouses go lower.
What to check: whether hot water runs all day or only in the morning and evening, whether there is a heater from October, and whether the price includes breakfast. In a valley where electricity can fail, ask about a generator or inverter.
Mid-range: inns, lodges and small hotels
This is where most visitors end up. Rooms are clean, with attached bathrooms, and many face the Karakoram towards Passu or the valley. The big variation is in the views: a room on the river side of the road looks at the highway, while a room set up on the slope looks at the peaks. Ask for a photograph taken from the room.
Some inns also offer yurt-style rooms in the garden. They are a novelty and cheaper, but they are colder at night than a brick room and shared washrooms are common.
Resorts and better hotels
There are a few resort-style stays with more landscaping, dining rooms and better beds. In the high season, from September to November, prices for these can rise sharply, and a couple of platforms show peak-season averages several times the low-season figure. If you want one of these in October, book weeks ahead.
Even here, do not expect city-hotel standards or a busy restaurant. Menus are limited, and dinner is often at a set time.
What to check before you book
- Season. Some places close or shrink their service from December to March. Confirm heating and hot water.
- The room, not the photograph. Ask which floor and which side, and whether the view is from the room or only the terrace.

Is Gulmit the right place to stay?
Stay in Gulmit if you want a calm base close to Passu and Khunjerab, and you do not need restaurants and shops within walking distance. It suits families and older travellers who dislike Karimabad's crowds. It suits less those who want a lot to do in the evening, or who want a wider choice of restaurants and rooms; Karimabad has more of both.
