Hotels in Abbottabad: Where to Stay

Most hotels in Abbottabad sit along Mansehra Road and in the Supply and cantonment areas of the city, with a smaller number of hillside guesthouses on the way up to Thandiani and the Galiyat. City hotels are the easier choice for a one-night stop on the drive north; hillside places are quieter and cooler but further from the sights.

This guide covers the two kinds of stay, what a room typically costs, and how to choose a base depending on whether you are continuing to Naran or the Galiyat.

Hotels in the city

Abbottabad's city hotels cluster along Mansehra Road and around the Supply and cantonment areas, within easy reach of Shimla Hill, the Ilyasi Mosque and the main bazaars. This is the practical choice if you are stopping for a night on the way north, or spending a day on the city sights before heading out to Harnoi or Thandiani.

Abbottabad has a branch of Hotel One, the national budget hotel chain, which is a reliable choice if you want a predictable standard room without shopping around. At the other end of the range, Republika Central Hotel & Resort is a larger property with a garden and terrace, aimed at families and groups who want more space. Between these, the city has a wide spread of independent mid-range and budget hotels, most listed on the major booking sites, with rooms generally running from around PKR 4,000 for a simple double up towards PKR 15,000 or more for a larger room in a newer property (2026 range; check current rates, as they move with the season).

A city hotel makes sense if you plan to see Shimla Hill, the Ilyasi Mosque and the cantonment on foot or by short drive, and if you are leaving early the next morning to continue north or to the Galiyat.

Hillside and Galiyat-side stays

Abbottabad city itself has little in the way of true hillside accommodation; the cooler, forested guesthouses are mostly further out, on the roads towards Thandiani and towards Nathia Gali and Dunga Gali in the Galiyat, about 35 km from the city. These are proper hill stations with pine forest and lower summer temperatures than the city, and a wider choice of guesthouses and resort-style hotels, particularly around Nathia Gali.

The trade-off is distance and, in winter, reliability. The road to Thandiani and the Galiyat can close for days under heavy snow, as it did for about two weeks in February 2026, so a hillside stay is a summer and autumn plan more than a winter one. If you want mountain air without driving out of the city, staying in Abbottabad and taking a half-day trip up is usually the more practical choice.

Abbottabad as a base for Naran and the Galiyat

Because Abbottabad sits on the Hazara Motorway roughly halfway between Islamabad and the turn for Kaghan at Mansehra, it works well as an overnight stop rather than a destination in itself.

• For Naran or the Kaghan valley, staying in Abbottabad the night before shortens the next day's drive, since Mansehra and the N-15 turn are only about half an hour further on.
• For the Galiyat, a city hotel lets you do Nathia Gali and Dunga Gali as a day trip through Harnoi, then return to a wider choice of places to eat and stay in Abbottabad itself, rather than the smaller set of options on the hill.
• For Thandiani, the same applies: it is close enough as a half-day out from a city hotel that staying up there overnight adds little beyond the view at dusk and dawn.

Booking and what to check

• Book ahead for weekends, Eid and the summer school holidays, when Hazara Motorway traffic and demand for rooms both rise sharply.
• Ask what the room actually includes. Advertised rates on booking sites don't always include taxes or breakfast, and prices at smaller independent hotels can be negotiable, especially outside peak season.
• Confirm parking, particularly at older city-centre properties where street parking can be tight.
• Check the season before choosing a hillside stay. From December to February, ring ahead to confirm the road up is open before committing to a guesthouse near Thandiani or the Galiyat.

Is it worth staying in Abbottabad, or pushing on?

If your goal is Naran, Hunza or Chilas and you are leaving Islamabad reasonably early, you can usually skip an overnight in Abbottabad and drive straight through in a long day. Where a night here earns its place is when you are leaving late, travelling with young children or elderly parents, or combining Hazara with the Galiyat as its own short trip.

For a first visit to the region, one night in an Abbottabad city hotel, timed around the sights and a trip to Thandiani or the Galiyat, is a comfortable way to see Hazara without rushing.
