Spring (March to May)
Spring is one of the two best windows to visit. March is cool and often wet, with average highs around 18°C, and it is one of the rainier months of the year for the city. By April and May the days warm up and the rain eases, with May averaging around 16 to 28°C. The hills stay green and the air is clear on the days between spells of rain.

Summer (June to August)
June is the warmest month, with average highs around 28 to 30°C, comfortably below what Islamabad and Lahore see in the same weeks, which is the main reason people come to Abbottabad in summer at all. July and August bring the monsoon: July is the wettest month of the year, with average rainfall well over 200 mm, and rain can trigger landslides on the hill roads to Thandiani and the Galiyat and close access to the stream at Harnoi.
Summer is still a reasonable time to visit if you don't mind the odd washed-out afternoon, and it is when Shimla Hill's park and the pakora stalls at the Ilyasi Mosque are busiest. Check the forecast the night before any trip out of the city, particularly to Thandiani.
Autumn (September to November)
Autumn is the other best window. October and November are the driest months of the year, averaging under 50 mm of rain, with clear air and good visibility from Shimla Hill and Thandiani. Temperatures ease from warm days in September to noticeably cooler ones by November, when night-time lows start dropping towards single figures.
This is the season for views: the monsoon haze has cleared, and the hills around the city are at their most photogenic before the leaves are gone and before winter snow arrives.
Winter (December to February)
Winter in the city itself is cold but manageable: January's average high is around 12°C and the average low is about 2°C, with occasional light snow in the city and hard frost overnight. It is not the season for outdoor sightseeing at leisure, but the city sights are still reachable and quieter than in peak months.
The hills immediately around Abbottabad are a different matter. Thandiani, at about 2,750 metres, and the Galiyat hill stations regularly get heavy snow, and the link roads can close for extended periods: in February 2026 more than a foot of snow shut the roads to Thandiani and the Galiyat for around two weeks, and the district administration told tourists to stay away until they reopened. If snow is what you're after, this is when to come; if you want to reach Thandiani or Nathia Gali by road, check conditions before setting out and keep your plans flexible.
