Which cafes are best for coffee?
Espresso is the name most listings use for the pioneer of Karachi's cafe culture. It began at Zamzama and now has branches in DHA Phase 6, Tipu Sultan Road and Dolmen Mall Clifton. It is a sensible choice if you want a reliable flat white and a sandwich, with no fuss.
FLOC (For the Love of Coffee) is a locally run specialty roaster that appears repeatedly in lists of the city's better coffee. Go if you care about how the beans were brewed rather than how the room looks.
Gloria Jean's and Butlers Chocolate Cafe are the international-style chains. Butlers has branches at Zamzama and Dolmen Mall. Both are predictable, air-conditioned and easy to find, which counts for something in Karachi's summer.
Where can you go for a long lunch or brunch?
Cafe Flo in Clifton has been running since the late 1990s and is rated well by visitors as an upscale, sit-down place. It suits a family lunch or a business meeting more than a quick coffee.
Xander's in Block 4, Clifton, was listed in a 2024 guide for its Sunday brunch. Book ahead if you are a large group.

The Roadside Cafe on Nehr-e-Khayyam Street in Block 5, Clifton, is described in local guides for its graffiti and truck-art decor and its winter evenings with bonfires and music. It is best after dark and in the cooler months.
Cafe Chatterbox in the Bukhari Commercial area of DHA Phase 6 is listed as an affordable, unfussy place for a meal and a sit. It is popular with locals from the neighbourhood rather than visitors.
New York Coffee in Block 9, Clifton, is known for its wood-and-lights interior and its cheesecake. Reviews suggest it is a good dessert stop after dinner in the area.
Where should you go late at night?
Karachi does its late socialising over chai rather than espresso. A note on The Second Floor (T2F)
T2F, the well-known cafe, bookshop and community space in DHA, closed its Phase 2 venue and announced a move to larger premises in Korangi. Reports say programmes were due to resume in early August, but we could not confirm a current opening date or address. If T2F is on your list, check its own channels first.
